Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I'm not sure if this is an Emby issue or something I have configured incorrectly. All my videos have are located in a folder with an nfo, poster, & and fanart. I used media companion to scan in all the information. I want Emby to use that information that is already stored with the video vs. searching for new info from the internet so I went into Library > Metadata and unchecked both metadata downloaders. I had to remove my library and re-scan to refresh my metadata data. This time when I scanned in the library all my fanart images have been removed from the video folder. I added my fanart back and reverted my changes but when I refresh the movie in Emby it continues to delete my fanart from the video folder.
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Hi, I don't think it is emby doing that. We never delete unless requested to. Can you go over some specific examples in detail? Thanks !
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I have a library of 290 kids movies. I noticed my special genre tag that I use to identify kids movies was missing. I found that most of my movies in that library only had 3 genres listed so most of them were missing my special tag because it was the last one added. I found a forum page that suggested unchecking the metadata downloaders to resolve this issue. I unchecked the metadata downloaders and ran a few successful test pulling in my genre tag. I removed my library of 290 kids movies then added it back and everything looked good. When I launched media companion I noticed the kids movies were all missing fanart images. I went back to the folders and confirmed that each fanart image was gone. I re-scanned the a couple of the movies with media companion to pull in the missing fanart. I confirmed the new image was in the actual folder. Then I went into Emby > Right clicked on the movie > Clicked the check box to replace existing images and the fanart image would get deleted. I ran this test several times and each time I refresh the video the fanart gets deleted. Example of folder structure: Kids > Trolls (2016) .actors Trolls (2016).mkv Trolls (2016)-fanart.jpg Trolls (2016)-poster.jpg I went back and unchecked all the image catchers and created a new temp library with a couple of backup videos. After the scan initial scan all the files were in the folders. So I went back up checked the image catchers saved the changes. Then I clicked on one of the temp folders, selected refresh, checked the box to replace existing images, and my fanart was deleted again.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 The only difference I see doing a refresh/replace images is the naming convention.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Do you by chance have backdrops set to zero for Movies? Dashboard-Library-Metadata-Image Settings-Maximum number of backdrops per item
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Backdrops hasn't changed and is set to 1. Here is how I can reproduce the issue. O is unchecked and X is checked. It doesn't matter if I add a new library or refresh but it will delete the fanart with these settings. Library > Metadata Metadata downloaders: O The Open Movie Database O TheMovieDb Image fetchers: X TheMovieDb X Fanart X The Open Movie Database X Screen Grabber
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) You will have to post a server log. I can not reproduce this with those exact settings. v3.2.1.0 Edited February 17, 2017 by Happy2Play
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I think many see the issue, but I can't get the server to delete the images with Refresh and replace images. If I have no image and this setting is not selected you will not get fanart until needed. Download images in advance Dashboard-Library-select each library and enable setting
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Attached is the log file. I cleared the log file > Refreshed a movie with the following settings. Library > Metadata Metadata downloaders: O The Open Movie Database O TheMovieDb Image fetchers: O TheMovieDb O Fanart O The Open Movie Database O Screen Grabber Verified the fanart was still in the movie folder. Then I changed the following settings: Library > Metadata Metadata downloaders: O The Open Movie Database O TheMovieDb Image fetchers: X TheMovieDb X Fanart X The Open Movie Database X Screen Grabber Refreshed the same movie and confirmed the fanart had been removed from the folder. server-63622934085.txt
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 One more thing to add: I selected each image fetcher individually and each one deleted the fanart after a refresh with the exception of Screen Grabber which deleted the fanart & poster.
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 What exactly did it delete? How are you verifying that it deleted?
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Inside my video folder Trolls (2016)-fanart.jpg is being deleted. With Screen Grabber Trolls (2016)-fanart.jpg & Trolls (2016)-poser.jpg were both deleted. Emby could be performing as expected and my settings are incorrect. What I'm looking to achieve is having Emby get all all the video info and images locally from the video nfo and local jpgs. I want it to be read only and not delete or modify any of these files. It appears I can achieve these results by unchecking all the Metadata downloaders and all Image fetchers and I'm okay with that. I want to make sure I understand correctly so I don't accidentally delete all my *-fanart.jpg images again. I wasn't expecting unchecking the Metadata downloaders would cause images to get deleted.

Are you saying a Library Scan is not already doing that?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) You may have to enable debug logging (Dashboard-Logs) and restart the server for it to take effect. I didn't see anything in the log in reference to images. Edited February 17, 2017 by Happy2Play
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Are you saying a Library Scan is not already doing that? A library Scan does the same thing (deletes the images). For testing purposes it was quicker/easier to do a refresh of a single video vs. adding and removing a library.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Can you post a screenshot of the Library setting for that Library. Dashboard-Library-select the library
Guest worthington_j Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Attached are some screenshots and the log file in Debug mode. Pic1 shows my movie folder prior to being scanned Pic2 shows my Metadata Settings Pic3 Show my new library prior to being scanned *This time the initial library scan did NOT delete the fanart, however it did the previous time I tested Pic4 shows my movie folder after I right clicked on the movie and selected refresh. This should be included in the log file as well. server-63622943087.txt
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Ok, it looks like you did a manual force refresh, and you selected "replace all images" as the image refresh mode. So that is why. Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 204 to ::1. Time: 468ms. http://localhost:8096/emby/Items/05ee7cfd01be541406933764bebd6ea7/Refresh?Recursive=true&ImageRefreshMode=FullRefresh&MetadataRefreshMode=FullRefresh&ReplaceAllImages=true&ReplaceAllMetadata=true Part of that operation is clearing out existing images so unless I'm missing something it looks to me like the system is doing what you're asking it to do.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) Since you don't have "Save artwork and metadata into media folders" enabled, when you Refresh and Replace they get stored somewhere else. I don't see a way for Library Scan to remove you images though as it is reading the information that is already there. Edited February 17, 2017 by Happy2Play
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Since you don't have "Save artwork and metadata into media folders" enabled, when you Refresh and Replace they get stored somewhere else. Yes, bingo.
Guest worthington_j Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Awesome! Thanks everyone for the explanation. That makes sense and now I will know for the future.
