Feature Request/Bug?

Google Chrome Version 56.0.2924.87

Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Emby Server Version 3.2.1.0

Issue #1: The value in the "Title:" field on the edit page is populated from the media file's properties if there is a value present otherwise, it is populate with the media file's filename. The value can be changed by editing the appropriate media file property and re-scanning in Emby. However, avi and realmedia files are not editable. Even if the "Title:" is manually edited, the value from the media file properties returns @ the next re-scan.

Issue #2: The "Title:" field does not appear to be refreshed when the refresh option is selected (i.e., 1. The "Title:" field is populated with a value from the media file's property. 2. The media file's corresponding property is edited. 3. The media file is refreshed in Emby...No joy "Title:" remains the same.)

Some possible resolutions Issue 1:

1) Do not populate the "Title:" from media properties.

2) Provide capability for user to select the source for "Title:" field population.

Resolution for Issue 2:

1) Refresh the "Title:" when the refresh option is selected.

2) Only initialize "Title:" when media is initially scanned. Do not repopulate on Refresh or Re-scan.

3) Do not refresh "Title:" on re-scan

Thank you for your attention. If you decide to address this I remind you there are two(2) issues to be addressed to resolve completely.

Thx

We plan to add a setting in the future to control the source of the title. For #2, I believe it is working as expected. If there is internet metadata then of course the name will come from there, but if not then we will look to the file. You can always lock the name field if you need to.

Your suggestion does not work! After manual changing the Title fields of of perhaps 100 files, I inadvertently refreshed a folder and all of the changes were lost! The Title field is not one of the field listed under Enabled fields on the Edit page? I checked the box labeled "Lock this item to prevent future changes". Checking this box led me to believe nothing would be allowed to be changed relative to the media file's metadata. Is this a bug?

Your attention is appreciated. I have many, many videos whose properties are forcing them all to be labeled "video". Others have properties that force a title that is meaningless to me.

Thx

It's listed under the lockable fields as Name.

You can lock that field or the entire item. I just tested customizing the title of a movie, locking the entire item, and then refreshing that item. The custom title was preserved, so no problem found.

Well i locked the entire item and it's not working for me? Also, I am talking about "Home videos". Could there be difference in the they are handled?

Thx

I just tested on home videos and it was fine there too. Do you have saving to local metadata enabled? Please note, my tests are with the server at default metadata settings + saving to local metadata enabled.

I do not have saving to local metadata enabled.

do you have local metadata files inside the media folder? perhaps created by another program?

In that case please provide the server log from an example. thanks.

I am accessing the server remotely as admin.

1) Restarted server.

2) Debug logging is enabled.

3) Changed the value in "Name:" field, populated from an .avi file, from "video" to "testing".

4) Under "Enabled Fields" a) Unchecked "Name" and B) checked  "Lock this item to prevent future changes".

5) Selected "Refresh" for the media file

6) Refreshed the browser

"Name:" field for the media file name returned to "video"

Server log is attached  server-63623153149.txt

Thx

It's resolved for the next release of Emby Server, thanks.

I assume the resolution you are talking about is  correcting the fact that the "Name:" field can be changed when locked, and not the original set of issues I posted? Thank you!

When you decide to implement a solution to my initial issue(s), also be aware that when a file's properties can be edited, refreshing the media in Emby does NOT refresh the "Name:" field.

Thx   B)
