Mystical666 3 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Hi, I have purchased an EMBY Premium Subscription and this is the first time I have ever used the software but I am getting very high RAM usage on the server. All I have done so far is install the Server, add a couple of Libraries and let it scan, I left this overnight and when I came back this morning I could no longer access the computer as it had crashed (as i thought at the time), but actually it hadnt crashed but it had eaten up all the memory available and made the server so slow nothing would work on it, I cant access any interface etc. So I have no access to Libraries (they wont display), I cant change any settings and I cant access Remotely or over the local Network. When I restart the PC (tried this several times) the memory usage starts off normal then rapidly jumps up. All my media is located on NAS drives over the local network, nothing is stored on the server. Does anyone have any advice? Please see screenshot below the memory usage. thanks,
Luke 42080 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Hi can you please attach the emby server log? Thanks !
Mystical666 3 Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 (edited) Hi can you please attach the emby server log? Thanks ! Hi Luke, Thanks for the quick reply, sadly I didnt think to take a copy of the server log but I went into the (on Windows) c:\users\me\appdata\ folder for emby and deleted the lot. Then I re-installed the server software and booted it up, I have now begun adding in my media and it seems to be going alot better this time. So in short - deleting all the settings and re-installing did fix my problem. I will keep an eye on it as it does the updates and if I have anymore problems I will reply here (and will include the server log) Edited February 14, 2017 by Mystical666
Rumbaar 13 Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I have encounted this issue when I've performed mass changes to meta-data and had real-time monitoring set for the library. It would kill my CPU and RAM. I had incorrectly assumed it was a HDD issue, and performed an upgrade to a SSD, and that too would be killed during an event of this type. Now I have to make sure I disable real-time monitoring when I perform a mass update. 1

zigzagtshirt 55 Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I had this issue happening to me as well. However, it stopped being a problem with the latest Emby server update.
Mystical666 3 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Well its happening again, I havent been able to get the server up and running yet (i.e. havent watched anything so far) as im just trying to get the library setup. I believe the problem is due to the large amount of items I have in a folder. So far i have setup the libraries in this order: (the numbers in brackets are the number of media files in that folder) \\NAS\\Media\Stand-up Comedy (80) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Concerts (16) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Scene Releases (11) - worked \\NAS\\Media\3D Movies (41) - worked \\NAS\\Media\4K Movies (39) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Rips (2630) - stopped working So as soon as it hits the large movie collection it basically stops dead and becomes inaccessible. So the only things I have done is add folders to my Library and play about with the Cover settings (using Open Case, Clear case etc.) so maybe thats what the problem is? I have attached the latest log file for you to take a look at. thanks for the help Daz server-63622834693.txt
Latchmor 584 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Hi, do you have chapter image extraction on per library during the scan? That can slow things down a lot. If I add lots of media at once I disable this setting so it just scans and matches media. Then after (through the night) I'll kick off a chapter extraction. Perhaps you could show a screen print of what the Rips folder structure/content looks like? Also, that log file doesn't show much, can you find the one where it was scanning then became unresponsive? Cheers

Definitely not got Image Extraction turned on in the library settings. server-63622683031.txt server-63622713603.txt

Mystical666 3 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Can you try removing the cover art plugin and see if the issue persists? thanks ! Hi Luke, I have removed all Plugins (had 2, the CoverArt plugin and the Auto collection one) Still seeing high memory use however Do you think its worthwhile deleting the settings again and starting from scratch but not install any plugins etc. And see if I come up with the same issues? Thanks for your help with this and everyone who has replied
Luke 42080 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 What actions have you taken? And yes you can try that.
Mystical666 3 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 What actions have you taken? And yes you can try that. So far i removed both the plugins (Plugins > Plugin > Uninstall) Then I have restarted the Emby server (Dashboard > Restart) Memory usage was still at the maximum Should I have done something else?
Luke 42080 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 What did you do after restarting Emby Server?
Mystical666 3 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 What did you do after restarting Emby Server? Nothing, just tried to access the web interface, it loaded but i couldnt get into any of the collections it just kept hanging with the spinning circle
Luke 42080 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 What if you start it up without loading the web app (or any app)?
Mystical666 3 Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 Ok, so from restarting the server, this is the memory usage 185.3MB - Stayed at that for 10 minutes 1,339 MB - Within 2 minutes of loading the web app Here is the machine spec Windows 8.1 Enterprise 4GB Ram Intel Xeon CPU 2.40GHz
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Is there anyway you can clear out all the boxsets and then compare? i have a feeling that is causing this, thanks.
Mystical666 3 Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 Is there anyway you can clear out all the boxsets and then compare? i have a feeling that is causing this, thanks. Hi Luke, Unsure what you mean. Do you mean dont scan in any films that are part of a collection (i.e. Back to the Future, Alien, Indiana Jones etc.) Or Dont install the plugins for doing the collections?
Mystical666 3 Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 Right, a little update on this I have been back into the appdata folder and deleted it all Re-installed Emby and have started adding my libraries So no plugins installed at all this time, I have added in the following so far: \\NAS\\Media\Stand-up Comedy (80) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Concerts (16) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Scene Releases (11) - worked \\NAS\\Media\3D Movies (41) - worked \\NAS\\Media\4K Movies (39) - worked \\NAS\\Media\Music\Music Videos (1500) - working (might take a while) so far all seems well, tested a couple of things and they work I still havent added the main movie folder yet but wanted to see if everything works properly before adding the huge collection Memory use so far today has been no higher than 225.3MB - definitely an improvement
Luke 42080 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Thanks for the info. Let us know how it goes.
