dougw03 16 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Hello, I've been using Emby as a DVR for the last few weeks and so far it's been a huge upgrade from Windows Media Center. One feature request that I would like to see is for the behavior when clicking the Recordings folder under "My Media." If you have Emby setup to be a DVR, Emby automatically creates the Recordings folder for you which allows you to navigate directly to the folder. This is nice, but I think it would be better if when you click on this folder, it takes you to the page as if you had clicked Live TV -> Recordings (tab). This page has a lot more information and is easier to browse the latest recordings.
techywarrior 689 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Sort of related to this (maybe). Can the recordings folder not show up if nothing is in it? Or can we have some sort of option to remove it?
Luke 42083 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 If it's truly empty then you try removing it from library setup.
techywarrior 689 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 If it's truly empty then you try removing it from library setup. Yea, I realized after that it created it's own library folder (which I since removed) but I still contend that it would be a nice option to have the ability to hide it (since on the front end it's similar to going to live tv and then recordings). I am sure some people want the quick access from the home page but in it's current implementation it's no faster to get to the actual media then going to live tv then recordings. Another "issue" with the current implementation is that it only displays the recordings made by Emby. If you have a live tv provider setup as well as native Emby live tv (or if you switch from say ServerWMC to Emby for live tv and have old recordings) you can have two sets of recordings and they are in two different places. It would be nice if that could all be unified in a single "recordings" page. 1
techywarrior 689 Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Something I found out, which I consider an oversight/bug, with the recordings folder. The recording location is empty, I no longer have a live TV attached to Emby (directly, I have serverWMC plugin installed again instead). I had changed the default recording location so that it was something not in the Emby data folder. As you had recommended, I removed the Recordings folder from the library. Each time Emby did a library scan it added the Recordings folder back. It wasn't until I changed the recordings folder back to the default location that it stopped adding the recordings folder back to the library on every scan. Why should the behaviour be different with the default location versus having a custom location set but still no device attached to Emby for live tv?
Luke 42083 Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 If you have an HD homerun then the built in features are strongly recommended because that is what the core team is actively testing.

No DRM channel support so it was a bit of a non-starter. That's why I am still using WMC and serverWMC. In that regard it's also sort of annoying that the DRM channels don't show in the guide because they can be played via serverWMC can't they? (the same would hold true for other live tv plugins) Unless they still can't be played (I don't remember if I ever tested that before in Emby or not)
ebr 16187 Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Emby apps would not be able to play them. Only WMC itself I believe.
techywarrior 689 Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Emby apps would not be able to play them. Only WMC itself I believe. Another use I have of having the DRM channels in the guide is to be able to set a recording for them (since via the serverWMC plugin it actually sets the recording in WMC). This probably a pretty niche combination of the Emby users. What if an option is added to display DRM channels? It could have some warning text that this is just for display and you can't watch them in Emby (mostly)? Since the option is disabled by default the client apps won't start showing DRM channels after a server update. In the Theater guide you can even identify them if you want with a red background behind the channel/logo on the left. Or a marking or whatever. Not a high priority request but I also think it's fairly easy to do.
dougw03 16 Posted May 14, 2017 Author Posted May 14, 2017 @@Luke sorry to keep resurrecting all my threads (this is the last of my feature requests), but is this still on your team's work queue? Thanks again for all the support!
Luke 42083 Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 @@dougw03 we haven't looked at this yet but it's a possibility for the future. thanks.
