Guest Accounts Getting Full Access?

Recommended Posts

Working on a few guest accounts.  So far i have set up two of them.  Each having the same "qwerk"...

When i set them up in the beginning i do not give full access to things like photos and home videos.  Personal things that i don't particularity care to share with folks outside the house. When finished the account goes into pending status.  When they log in for the first time it seems that the server changes those library settings giving full access?  I can go back in after the first log in and correct this, but why?  Bug or did i miss an initial set up item?

Thanks, again, in advance!

(made the same mistake again and did not post this in the beta area, sorry)

Just FYI - the pending status doesn't have anything to do with them logging in.  When you setup a guest, an email is sent to that person asking them to confirm the link.  So, the account is pending until they confirm it.

So here is what i am doing....

I set up a guest account,  Put in the users name and or e-mail address if they need to set up an account.  Under that is the library's that you can give or remove access.  I un-tick home videos and photos.  Then i send the invite.  That then goes to a pending status immediately if they are an emby account holder.  I understand that they need to log on to the server in order to become a active user.  But this is the issue...  When that account goes from pending to active it does not seem to remember that when i sent the invite i un-ticked those two items, instead granting them full access to the libraries.

It is easy enough to fix when the account becomes active, but who knows when someone is going to accept the invite.

I just tested this on 3.2.1.100 beta and the pending user was restricted to the set libraries when I logged in.

Note I didn't have any Home video and photos libraries.  Just Music, multiple TV, and multiple Movies libraries, but users was restricted to Music as I set it.

Thanks for testing this out!  I will just make sure i am the one that sets up the emby account and password for my users first.  I only have 4 outside folks.  2 are overseas in the military.

If what i did in the original post is correct (how i set up guests) then possibly.  I have set up an account for ebr and one other for a family member.  Both times full access was granted.

I will set up another account and get back to you with the result...

Thanks for checking in!

I just set up this account, but when i try to log in it states invalid user or password (Both roku and android tv.)?  Yet i log into this forum without issue with it...    This is my test to see if home videos and photos show up.

Full access to what? Can you be more specific?

This is a new account i set up...  For my wife.  This is skidmarks posting under her new account.  I created this account to see if the home videos and photos would be view able under this new account.  I did not allow access to those when i invited this account to share my server.

Sorry for the confusion.  But this account is not recognized in emby when i try to manually log in (but it works here in the forums).

Why did you think they would not be visible? Did you take action to prevent them from being visible?

yes.  when i set up the guest accounts it gives you the option to select what you want to share with the said guest.  Then you send the invitation.  When that inventation is accepted they see everything.  Instead of what is chosen as you are setting up the invite.

What i was doing is trying to see if this is still happening.  Since i originally posted the server took another update.  But i can not manually log in with this account for some reason

When I logged in with the ID you made for me, I did not see your home videos or photos...

Also, again, the pending/active thing has to do with confirming the link, not logging in.  Just FYI.

ebr actually it did...  when your account went active, but still couldn't get in.  I checked your rights and everything was enabled.  I unchecked those items before you could get in for real.  Damn i missed that entirely...  So that changes from pending to active with just accepting the link.  Not the first log in.  Sorry, and thanks!

And i see the adt account i just made went active, without logging in!  And the library selections i made are correct...

And the adt account can log into both roku and android now...  More knowledge gained, better understanding of connect and user accounts.  Thanks to all....

possibly a bug in that beta version?  But everything seems to be working the way i was expecting to now!
