Going a bit batty here

My wife is having an issue when trying to play media using Chrome or IE from a remote location. However, I have been unable to faithfully recreate the problem here at home. When logging into the server using Chrome, my wife is getting audio, but the picture is just a blank black screen. Internet Explorer results in being able to navigate menus, but apparently it won't play the media at all.

My wife insists the browsers are up-to-ddate. I have tried resetting the client PC and have made sure the server is up-to-date (it is running 3.2.0.0) and I even tried resetting that machine since it has been many weeks since last it was cycled.

When I try logging in from another PC using Chrome and using the IP address, I am not having any issues. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing the issue? I am running out of ideas here.I might have more ideas to kick about if I could recreate the problem, but right now I am unable to.

We should at least begin by looking at server and ffmpeg logs of the playback session in question. Thanks !

I'll have her log in this afternoon so I can make sure I grab the right logs. Plenty of folks were trying to stream at the same time yesterday, making the logs pretty busy. I'll isolate her and get those posted ASAP.

So I sat down and restarted the server and hten had her start up a title in her Chrome browser and lo and behold, there was picture and sound. I have decided to chalk this one up to undefined/unknown user error on her part. Thanks for the quick replies though.

If you are running Chrome beta I have already seen several issues in the current beta, including video failures. It is normal and happens regularly after a new Chrome stable is released. When a stable is released, a whole lot of changes also get moved up from Chrome dev to Chrome beta, and there is usually brief period of instability.

I didn't even think to ask if she was using beta Chrome or not. I'll keep that in mind if this issue crops up again in the future.

Yes browsers can have problems too, thanks.

Oh, I know they can too. The reality with my SO is that in cases like this there is at least a 50/50 chance there is some sort of user error involved. This is why I tried all sorts of my own troubleshooting before coming here to pipe up. I clearly missed a key troubleshooting factor in forgetting to ask if she was on beta or stable relesase Chrome. I just had her make sure she was up-to-date. I know that more than nine times out of ten when there is an error invovled with my Emby experience, the error is the result of something on my end, not the program.
