autiofile 0 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Greetings Community, I've been searching for a while now and I'm not sure what to do. OK , so when I'm connect to the server away from home audio and video stutter. Thanks for any and all advice.
gcw07 347 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 It really isn't designed for away from home use. It is designed for being right there on a local network. I'd suggest taking a look at the Android, iOS or Windows 8 app. Those are designed for streaming outside the home.
AVTechMan 8 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 You also can use the MB web client away from home as it can stream from your server. It works great for me when im away from home.
A8HTPC 38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Until MBT gets further along in development, the best solution for you is probably Plex Media Server. Designed to stream movies, though it will not work with Raw bluray or dvd formats. MKV, MP4 M4V formats and probably others it works with. I use it all the time and it works great.
Yogi 367 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Why suggest a competitive product, there is plenty of MB clients that can stream away from home as gcw suggested.Or just use the server as AVTechMan suggested. 1
A8HTPC 38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Why not suggest it. There is no profit involved. Personally. Media Browser and Plex are two TOTALLY different products and function different. You can't even use raw dvd or bluray formats with Plex Theater. I will suggest it if it will help someone else. Why not point someone in a direction that will help them? Honestly, I use both Edited February 3, 2014 by A8HTPC
AgileHumor 123 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) I stopped using the Plex once MB started streaming live TV (and Movies) over the web. I have a Windows Phone and use the Web Browser client without issue. Might not support raw DVD and BR (guessing VOB or ISO)...but I started converting my videos to a single stream file a while ago. I've heard of a Plex Xbox One app in the works...which would be the only reason I could see going back. Edited February 3, 2014 by AgileHumor

Why is this superior to MBs web interface? I think the point Yogi is trying to make is that you are in an MB forum and rather than suggesting a solution that MB provides you suggest Plex while not really providing any detail on why it is better.
A8HTPC 38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Heck, I would tell someone on a plex forum to use Media Browser Theater instead of Plex Theater. Each to their own. Both work, My personal experience too, MB web client never worked. No matter what I did. Plex is more user friendly, client has more control of quality and plex is also more widely accepted. I haven't seen MB app on Samsung TVs yet. Like I said, Each to their own opinion, use which ever you want. Not taking profit away from anyone. Edited February 3, 2014 by A8HTPC

Oblivouly to each his own but the point is why come on our forums and tell someone to use another product instead of helping them find a solution with us. Has nothing to do with profits just we know we have the best with MB3 don't send them to an inferior server. The Candybar213
Yogi 367 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Ok let's leave it at that and not get into a bunfight, point has been made on both sides. If it goes any further I will close the topic.
candybar213 7 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Ok @@Yogi ok but in your opinion what point is better lol The Candybar213
moviefan 187 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 My personal experience too, MB web client never worked. No matter what I did. Your experience is much different than mine. I have never had an issue with the web client. Maybe we can help you figure out what the issue is if you let us know what is not working...
autiofile 0 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Thank you all for the input. How do I access the html5 web client away from home? OK that was easy. http://xx.xx.xx.xxx:8096/mediabrowser/dashboard/index.html Now I can access a settings tab that will let me lower the quality and it plays fine at 480p / 750mb Is my quality being limited by my ISP's upload limits? Danee 57 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Http://<your ip address or FQDN>:8096/mediabrowser Since you tried MBT already I assume the needed network configuration is done and functioning.
autiofile 0 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Yes, I believe so. Port forwarding. Just did a speed test. My upload limit is 1Mb.
gcw07 347 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Yes, I believe so. Port forwarding. Just did a speed test. My upload limit is 1Mb. With that upload speed, your quality will definitely be limited. I'd suggest starting with the lowest and going up one level of quality at a time. See the best quality you can get with your connection speed.

Quality will be limited by several things: 1) your server's upload capacity 2) Client's Download capacity. 3) If on Cellular, the signal quality and lost packets which is different than raw speed.
A8HTPC 38 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) My apologizes for suggesting another competitors software. I thought about it today. It didn't seem like an issue when I posted but I see your side. Last thing I wanted was my suggestion to turn ugly. Sorry Edited February 3, 2014 by A8HTPC 1
