AdamBearWA 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I was using MCM for metadata management previously, but have now uninstalled it due to a few problems. I want to have a clean slate for my metadata and use MB3 for all metadata generation. Here are the steps I have taken: 1. Using a script, I cleaned out all the metadata files in my "TV Shows" directory structure. 2. I enabled the "save metadata and images within media folders" option. 3. I then forced a manual refresh on the TV shows media library and all child items. A day later, there are still no metadata files in any of my TV shows. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
AdamBearWA 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I opened the metadata manager in my browser, clicked on the TV Shows library, ensured "refresh child items" was ticked, then clicked refresh metadata.
AdamBearWA 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I also tried this at the show level for a couple of individual shows.
Luke 42078 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 i beleive there is currently an issue where if you do that kind of refresh from a top level folder it will not refresh the child items. however it will work fine at the series level, so more information would be needed to debug.
AdamBearWA 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 With my version, no metadata or images are saved in the media folder when refreshing an episode, season or tv show. I'll get some logs later and post.
ebr 16184 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 For kicks, try it from MBC and see if it works.
zachmo826 1 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I'm having a similar issue. I've cleared out all local metadata, and it's saving down the nfo and xml files, but not the images. On a closer look into the nfo file, I can see it saying the thumb for a tv show is pointing to the "Roaming/MediaBrowser-Server/data/extracted-video-images/" folder. My xbmc client and MBS are are different machines, so this link is never going to work. Additionally, it's weird that even on a refresh, it's using the extracted image, even though the episode has a thumb on thetvdb. I figured it would be that thetvdb gets priority, then use an extracted image as a fallback, is that not the case?

Yes that is the case, so what you want to investigate is why they weren't downloaded.
zachmo826 1 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Was able to fix the missing local metadata by deleting the library db file and letting it rebuild. I also had create chapter thumbs enabled for tv shows, so that may have been a part of the issue too. I disabled that (was disabled by default, I had to mess it up) and after the rebuild all is well
AdamBearWA 3 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 I had to do a clean install for an unrelated reason so I took the opportunity to try and replicate the issue. What I found was that if for some reason the metadata and images can't be downloaded or saved to the local folders, then it will never try to save them locally for those videos ever again. For example, if I turn off the write permissions to that folder for one season of a TV show, obviously it won't have any metadata or images downloaded and stored locally. When you set the permissions back to normal, then new episodes have their metadata saved locally. This is expected behaviour. However, when you manually refresh the metadata of that show, season or individual episodes, the metadata and images for the previously failed episodes will not be stored locally. My question is, is there a way via the GUI to force it to try and copy the metadata and images locally?

Make sure the server has proper permissions to save files into your media folders.
Luke 42078 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Ebr is correct. If the server is denied write access to your folders, then it will automatically switch to saving in the server's internal metadata folder.

Detail4687 3 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Hmmmm. I'm on Windows 10, and I have un-selected "read only" for the entire emby libaery folder and sub-folders. What action will force an attempt for emby to "re-save images in folder"? Should I attach a log file? Thanks
Luke 42078 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 If you have fixed your permissions problems, then this should work now for new content going forward. You could try adding something new. You could also try using the image editor tool in the web app to change an image for something, and then see where that image gets saved. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 If you are able to get Emby to save with media on one item then a Refresh-replace exiting images should do what you want for existing media.
Luke 42078 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Please attach a server log if you still have a problem, just so that we can confirm that it's not something else. thanks.
