sprtfan 3 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) I'm running Server Version 3.0.5135.31685 When I open Mediabrowser classic, I get a message saying that the server can not be found. When I remote desktop into my Windows 2012 R2 server, Mediabrowser server is not open and I have to restart it. I did have an out of memory error once when going to restart Mediabrowser server, but that only happened once and I have not seen it again since. I think I posted the last log before Mediabrowser server crashed and had to be restarted. Thanks for any help. unhandled_9ba692a3-7a81-44a8-b2f3-6816cb05867b.txt Edited February 2, 2014 by sprtfan
ebr 16169 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 No crash in that log. Is there an exception log anywhere in the log folder?
sprtfan 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 All of the logs in the folder are listed as server or as unhandled. I'm getting them from here C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\logs Is this the right place? Thanks
sprtfan 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I uploaded a different log. Maybe it will have more info. Thanks
sprtfan 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Sorry for the mix up, I have attached one of the unhandled logs to the first post now. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, it is an OOM and it looks like it happened right at startup but not sure. If you have the log window turned on, try turning that off.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I unchecked the Enable debug logging from the advanced section. I was having a problem before turning that on as well but it did seem to get worse maybe after having it on. I'll give it a try for a few days and see if it works now. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 No, not that option. You definitely want to keep debug logging on. There is an advanced option to have a real-time log window up on the server. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you don't have it turned on. I'm also wondering if maybe this issue is caused by or at least related to the 3rd-party notification gadget we are using on the dashboard...
ebr 16169 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 @@Luke - would it be worth having an advanced option to disable the little tray notification windows on new content? Even if it isn't the tray window itself, this would take CA out of the library scan process so it wouldn't be a factor either.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 I tuned the debug logging back on. I'm pretty new to MB3 so I'm not sure where everything is yet. When I remote into my server, I discover that Mediabrowser server is not running so assumed it was the problem. Do you need any other logs from Windows or mediabrowser classic? Once I start mediabrowser server back up, everything works fine for most of the day. By the next morning though I'd normally have to go through the process again. Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Well the current notifications are browser-based. The wpf window notifications from the system tray were removed several months back. This looks like a startup error.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Any suggestions on what to do? It was working last night when I went to bed but my wife called me this afternoon saying it is not working again. I'll post the new error log when I get home. She is pushing me to uninstall and go back to the old mediabrowser interface. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Do you have CoverArt installed? Can you find and post a single server log from when it crashes? It would be dated right around the time of the unhandled log.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I do not have CoverArt installed. I'll post the single server log when I get home. Should it be in the same folder as the unhandled log?
ebr 16169 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 It really looks like you are trying to run the server when it is already running. Are you sure you aren't running it as a service and then also having it start up automatically on log-in? Or, did you possibly install the server twice under two different users?
sprtfan 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Do you have CoverArt installed? Can you find and post a single server log from when it crashes? It would be dated right around the time of the unhandled log. I attached a server log from about the same time as when a unhandled log was created to this post. I also have several server logs that are 1kb in size end with "Shutting down because another instance of Media Browser Server is already running" not sure if the is normal or not so wanted to mention it. I also noticed that the last server log before it stopped working was on 02/04/2014. Towards the end of that file was a "System.OutOfMemoryException". There was not a unhandled log made at that time. The last unhandled log was on 02/02/2014. Thanks server-63526895999.log
sprtfan 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I had it set to automatically start on log in. I went into Services and media browser was listed but the start up type was set to manual. I'm pretty sure I only installed it under one user. I only have one other adim account and tonight was the first time I had ever logged into it.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Would it be worth setting the service type to Automatic and unchecking Run Server at start up option?
ebr 16169 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Only if you want to run it as a service. There are some drawbacks to that as you have to make sure the permissions are set properly and the service can't auto-update. Instead, try disabling the service. Also, look in all of your user accounts on the machine for a %appdata%\Mediabrowser-server directory. Based on your log, it really looks like you are starting it twice. @@Luke - how do you feel about using a global mutex to keep that from ever happening? This is what we did with the MB2 service and it worked well. I would assume it would be supported under Mono too.
ebr 16169 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Okay. Do you agree that is what it looks like is happening here? He's got app startup logging at the end of a long log of an already running server.

Luke 42077 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 there was a reason why i took it out. i'll have to figure out what that was. either way we need to improve the double instance protection. i'll see if abeloin can look at it.
sprtfan 3 Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 I checked all of the user accounts and only one had a listing in the appdata for mediabrowser. I also changed the Service from Manual to Disable. When checking out the different Users, I noticed an admin account named MediaAdmin$. Not sure if that has anything to do with Mediabrowser or not or why it is there. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 We don't create machine accounts that I'm aware of. Have you had the problem since disabling the service?
