Flat folder structure recommendations

Disclaimer: This is not one of those "Please support a flat folder structure for TV shows" thread. I am merely looking for workarounds and am humbly asking for advice!

So here is the situation:

I watch a lot of TV shows in parallel as they are released, instead of downloading a whole season when it's completed. So, it is quite cumbersome to pick the correct folder for the respective show EVERYTIME when downloading a new, single episode of it. Hence, I cannot use TV show scraping, at least not until I cleaned up the separate episode files once the season is complete. All my unsorted newest episodes are stored in the same downloads folder.

What I want:

However, I don't think I really need scraped TV shows anyway (at least not until the season is completed). I would be perfectly happy if my newest media files were just shown and sorted by creation date in descending order, so that the newest files appear first and I can instantly watch the new episodes right after downloading.

First tries:

So, my first idea was to simply add the cluster-folder as "homevideo"-type. However, this way, some files are stripped of the episode identifier "SxxExx", which is a no go, because I wouldn't know which episode I started. (As a side note, this is maybe something that should be fixed in the emby sourcecode because why should home videos be renamed in any way?) The same happens when I pick the "mixed content"-type, which is an even worse option since not only media files are added. A further issue with both approaches is that the files are not sorted by creation date but alphabetically by default. In the webinterface-client, I can at least change the sorting principle, but in the DLNA-client of my LG-TV I do not have that option. I hope the hopefully soon to be released LG app will support it.

Very dirty workaround:

So, currently I am leaning towards using Serviio for my daily unsorted shows and emby for my movies and sorted shows. But an "all under one hood"-solution would obviously be preferred. Do you guys have any recommendations or ideas?

Why not just use Sonarr and let it handle the moving/naming/file structure?

Because it is only compatible with torrents and usenet, which I do not want to use. It is forbidden in my country. Thanks for your suggestion, anyway.

I see.  How about pointing Auto-Organize at the download folder?

Hey wow, that actually works quite well, thanks. There is just the minor issue that Auto-Organize does not work without user interference if the show does not already exist in the library. That's probably something worth fixing in the source code as well or is that behaviour by design?

That is by design right now because bad file names could otherwise cause a whole lot of erroneous shows to be created.

I see!

Ok, but there is still room for minor tweaks in this organizer:

-Picking a target folder: When you have multiple TV-folders, you apparently cannot decide in which folder the content ist supposed to go.

-The scheduled task: The time period is set to 5 minutes. Decreasing that is impossible, since the manual time period selection offers only a minimal value of 15 minutes.

But these are really just minor issues. So far, I am really happy with the system, so thank you for your assistance. Now, fingers crossed that the LG app is released soon. :-)

Search for ScreenPlay in the LG Store.  Works well (other than with collections)

Have you looked at Media Center Master? It will handle all your media organization and will auto move/rename your content and isn't linked to torrent/usenet as a must.

So for you, who cannot use torrents, you'd setup the TV series within the application.  So it'll know what it is and where to place the contents.  Then you can dump all your contents into a watched folder and MCM will automatically (based on correct naming of the episodes series.S01E01) and it'll scan, rename, move and populate with all the meta data EMBY needs.   I think the FREE version will work just fine for you, as the paid version is the one needed for torrent intergration and download automation.

Might be an alternative to the Emby Auto-Organizer. Is it capable of running as a service in the background, i.e., watching a folder for new files and renaming them automatically?

That is by design right now because bad file names could otherwise cause a whole lot of erroneous shows to be created.

Is there some way the user or admin could be notified in case files could not be organized automatically? I imagine a popup "Failed to process file: XY. Jump to Organizer-page?"

I had already read about that app. However, as I couldn't find it on the app store, I am assuming my TV is too old for it. I have posted in the respective thread just now, though, to see if I can get it to work somehow.

It's not a TV app, it's a windows program you'll need to install on your PC.   You can just run the process of downloads manually, if you've not got a 24/7 media PC.

Sorry, my quotes got messed up. The first answer was directed at you, not the last. Gonna fix that right now. :)

I don't think it can run as a service, but once started runs in the background and monitors a folder you define and can auto move/rename when new files are found.   Not sure if the automated part is a part of the subscription, but you can manually trigger the scan in the FREE version.   It does a lot of automation, that EMBY does once it's into it's library.  But can offload the load, and also gather it for other services as well.
