Swynol 375 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 So wondering how people manage heat in AV or server Racks. i have a small rack in a cupboard. the rear of the rack is against a wall so the exhaust heat doesnt really have anywhere to go. I fitted a bathroom extractor fan in the ceiling which extracts air and dumps it into another room. I also have grills in the bottom of the door to allow cooler air to enter. at the moment i keep my hard drives around 32-35c however i will be changing case soon which is a little more restrictive so am looking for ideas to add additional cooling. AC isnt really optional. I may use a 1U fan unit ontop of my rack which may help extract heat from the cab somewhat.
Swynol 375 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 i might get one of these to the cupboard door at the bottom https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Home-Cinema-TV-Video/AC-Infinity-AIRPLATE-Cooling-Control-Theater-Cabinet/B017PMM990/ref=pd_sim_60_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=N7KQVD3B0V1W748JC1ME
colejack 30 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 My rack just stays out in the open in my office. While we are looking for a new house one requirement is a closet or other extra room that I can dedicate to the rack and I will add active cooling to that room. Most likely will just have a heavy duty duct fan pull hot air out.
