b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 This whole user setup is overly complicated. I added a new user the other day and it brought my attention to the hoops users must go through. currently it is: I set up a new user on the server new user then has to create an account on emby forum user then has to confirm link in email user then get an activation email and has to sign into the forum to change their password user then needs to inform me of their username I add this to the server user then has to login and confirm their account by going to a web address to add a pin user can finally user emby (Imagine the trouble in explaining this to a 60 year who doesnt undertand tech) Surely it should be all done on the login page: I set up a new user on the server new user logs into their account where emby then asks for a password to be setup user adds a password and then has access
mediacowboy 438 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Do you have a static ip or use some form of dynamic dns? I ask because to add a remote user to my server all I do is create a new user. Setup a password. Give them my URL I formation and port. Have them select their name. Input their password. Done. 1
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 Yes this is for a guest user, but as I am running a vpn I need my users to use connect
ebr 16182 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 One thing you could do is create the Forum/Emby account for them. All you would need is an email address for them and to tell them to confirm the account when the email comes in. Then you add them as a guest and they confirm that one more time. 1
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 That is currently how I set up my users but thought it could streamlined a bit
Luke 42078 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Can you please explain this part user then get an activation email and has to sign into the forum to change their password new users are not required to change their password. Thanks. 1
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 Can you please explain this part user then get an activation email and has to sign into the forum to change their password new users are not required to change their password. Thanks. You are correct of course, but the randomly generated password that is supplied is more than overly difficult to input and/or remember in comparison to a user selected password
Luke 42078 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 When you create an account you choose your password. When was a randomly generated password assigned? the only thing I can think of is the forgot password function. 1
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 Its been a while since I last had to set up a new user so my memory is a little foggy, perhaps it isn't during the account creation process. Maybe i am just remembering the back and forth following links in emails and activating, Its three emails in total I believe
Abobader 3464 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 user then has to confirm link in email Good day, We recently remove that option, simply new user registration done immediately without email validate matters. My best 1
