New colored boxes on Home Screen thumbnails, their meaning?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Like user Argonous (whose jpeg I am reusing, thanks) I notice that the thumbnails to my shows and actors have acquired various colors on the Title boxes (see below).

I am fine with that.

I would like to know is:  What do the various colors represent?

Is there any meaning to them?  Genre?  Codec?

Or are they just pretty?

Their only purpose is adding a touch of color.

@@Luke how can we disable this?

Again looks like you are making your personal cosmetic preferences and forcing them on everyone.

Can you not make these cosmetic changes optional?

My library now looks like something from a daycare school, all the rainbow colors is childish and looks awful compared to how it looked before with just the movie posters.

Please @@Luke  give us the option to turn this off, and in future any make any cosmetic changes optional!!!!

It's kind of hard to understand why so many UI changes are implemented without introducing a way for users to choose their preference for that specific UI element. People have different preferences, and people get accustomed to things that have been a certain way for a long time. Why get rid of something completely when it would cause absolutely no issues to allow users to choose if they want the old view or the new one?

I have asked a few times for this to be changed to an option - its all over the place now and not in others - its inconsistent and the home screen is a mess  - for me it ruins the look of Emby - maybe not a daycare look but not that far off

At the time i think Luke thought it was cool - although it hammers the browser to do the calcs - and slows it down - all for little benefit

Some like it and thats fine by me - but give the rest of us the option to turn then chuffin thing off!

I personally like the Card View everywhere. I also watch everything with subtitles and am not fond of the popup overlays used. The cards build on those preferences. They are one of the things missing in the Client Apps.

However, I can see why some wouldn't like them.  Just allowing users to turn off the card view would solve the problems others have.

I honestly don't see how anyone would think a rainbow of useless colors is cool, but sure everyone has their own preference.

The point is that any cosmetic or personalization settings should be optional.

Do not implement something unless you have also implemented a way to turn it off.

A setting is possible for a future update.

There is always custom css :)  to make them one color again or FireFox as these colored footer changes have never worked there.

While they don't represent anything, the colors are derived from the content of the image above them.

I suspected as much and I think it's kind of cool. I guess it doesn't get a perfect color complement match in every case, but on certain images, it really enhances the image. I like just the plain black/white, too. So in my case, it doesn't take away from the experience at all.

An option to enable/disable is always preferred, though.

As always, appreciate your efforts!

They represent fun.

Some people hate that :)

Seriously though, adding the Select View function to all the web UI elements that show movie posters could be a simple solution.

I went with this, but it is possible to target the pages you don't want cardFooter though.

.visualCardBox, .cardFooter {
    background-color: transparent !important;
}

It looks great... The colors are a blend of colors found in the image above them.  So they are not bright pink unless the image is bright pink.   It's a good move.

@@denz they have never been enabled for iOS. It's not fast enough.
