auto-organize problem with the EmbyTV recordings folder

Hello,

I have EmbyTV record in a Recorded TV folder and then auto-organize moves TV episodes to their appropriate season folders located on other hard drives in a USB enclosure.  So TV-Kids is in one location, TV - Mom and Dad is in another location, and so forth.  Most of the time this works very well.

Many months ago the server started adding the recordings folder as part of the media library so that new recordings could be viewed by clients.  This is very handy for watching new recordings that auto-organize hasn't moved yet.  However, it means that some shows have two folders in two different locations for the current season.

Now we come to the problem. Auto-organize will move several episodes correctly over a period of many weeks and then suddenly it won't move one of the episodes.  If I click on the episode in the auto-organize section of the server, it says that it already found the episode and then lists its location in the Recorded TV folder.

Is there a setting that I should have changed to stop this?  Has anyone else run into this issue?  I don't recall seeing it mentioned before.  Is there a way to exclude the Recorded TV folder as a destination from auto-organize?  If I have auto-organize enabled, I obviously don't want the episode to stay where it was recorded.

Overall, I am incredibly happy with Emby, so it would be nice to eliminate this tiny issue.

Hi @@arztonyou, this is something that is on our list to review. We are aware of it.

Ultimately I think the answer is going to require some change - rather than configure it to record to one place and then configure auto-organize to move it to another place, I think the answer is ultimately that when you setup the recording you have the ability to specify where it's going to go.

So if you ultimately want it in your TV library then that's where it should just go in the first place.

Does this answer your question?

Thanks !

Luke,

Thanks for the response.  Do you mean that as you schedule each individual or series recording , you would be able to specify a destination in your media library for the file?  That would be fantastic, but sounds like a long-term goal.

For a short-term fix, is there any way to tell the server not to add the recordings folder as part of your media library?  If I remove it, it is automatically added again.  While I like having it in my library, I don't really use it very often.  Usually I sit down to watch new episodes a day or two after they've been recorded, so auto-organize has already moved the files.

Or having the ability to exclude the recordings folder as a destination from auto-organize, but keeping it in the media library, would be even better.  Then I could still use the recordings folder to watch stuff that I don't plan to keep.

As I said in my previous post, it's certainly not a huge issue, so I understand if you wait for the long-term solution.  But it would be nice if I didn't have to manually move these files into the proper location.

Thanks, again.

Luke,

I know the long-term solution to the problem described in this thread won't be enacted for quite some time yet, but something occurred to be in the meantime.  What order does auto-organize use to search through my libraries to match a show?  I'm curious why it only seems to be certain shows that cause the problem.  They are stored in the same folder as other shows that auto-organize sorts correctly.

@@arztonyou how do you feel about the current state of just setting a recording location? Thanks !
