cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Hi @@Luke Emby Server seems to be acting strange with new movies I am adding to the system, this is causing issues with native Kodi as a result. When I now add a new movie title Emby server is not automatically saving all the metadata and images i.e. all the artwork files to the movie files folder location. Now it only adds a .nfo file and a poster.jpg image. And sometimes it doesn't even do that, as I just added three new movies and only two of them got an .nfo and poster.jpg the third movie title had nothing at all added to its folder location. This is now causing issues for Kodi as when I update its video library there is no artwork other than the poster and there is no fanart background. However if I go to the Emby web GUI in here, I can see the three new movie titles have been added. If I click in to one of the new movie titles in the Emby web GUI, it is only then the other metadata files appear in the movies folder location. Before I select and go in to the movie title in the Emby web GUI After I have selected and gone in to the movie title in the Emby web GUI As you can see now the extrafanart and extrathumbs folders have appeared along with the fanart.jpg. Looking in the Metadata settings under Services -> Images all of the image types are checked and enabled. On the NFO settings section "Enable path substitution" and "Copy extrafanart into extrathumbs" are both checked. Under the Library settings -> Advanced in Metadata Path there is no path entered. Also the "Save metadata and images as hidden files" is not checked. This is the third new movie title I added and for some reason in its folder on the file server there is only the .avi file. No metadata and image files have been added at all, even after going in to the title in the Emby web GUI which normally works and forces it to add the missing files. So for this Kids movie title in the Emby web GUI I refreshed it and selected "Replace all metadata" and "Replace existing images". However after this there is still no metadata files and images in the movies folder only the .avi is present in there. Very strange! This has never been a problem before with movie titles, there is something funky going on with Emby server at the moment. Many Thanks
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 14, 2017 Solution Posted January 14, 2017 Have you verified the per library settings? Dashboard-Library-click on each library 1
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Have you verified the per library settings? Dashboard-Library-click on each library No I haven't will look now. Thanks
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Main Movies Library Kids Movies Library I can see for the Kids Movies library that "Save artwork and metadata into media folders" is not selected when it should be. So that explains that Kids movie title I guess. But still unsure why the rest of the images do not get saved in to the movies folder until I manually open that title in the Emby web GUI etc. Thanks
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Actually I have just seen this option "Download images in advance By default, most images are only downloaded when requested by an Emby app. Enable this option to download all images in advance, as new media is imported. This may cause significantly longer library scans." This is probably the problem then, is this new ?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Just going to say that. Not sure if it was in .8500 or just introduced. Emby is changing to be On Demand instead of downloading everything at once.
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) I've not changed these settings myself, just looking in the TV library and the option ""Save artwork and metadata into media folders" is also not checked in here. Looking in a brand new TV Show folder I added this week there are no metadata or artwork files in there at all. Where as in the past this option was checked and my old shows should all have the metadata files in the folder etc. So some update has un-selected these options possibly ? cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 So for however long this has been going on, I now have missing metadata and images in some of my folders. What's the best way to make sure all the new content that has been added does indeed have metadata and image files stored in their folders ? Thanks
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 That is a delima because metadata already somewhere, just not were you want it. That is why those settings only affect new media. Not sure if a Library-Refresh and select missing metadata will work. The nukler option is remove library, perform library scan, clean database, add library.

Not so good then, if I know the date this was added / happened? If not too far back I can manually go in to each new movie or TV show and sort it out maybe.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Assuming you are on stable release, 3.1 can out 28 days ago according to GitHub.
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 OK many thanks for your help! I think I will just work backwards looking in the folders for the new content I have added to see what's missing. Thanks again.
cw-kid 192 Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Actually TV shows are much more affected by this than movies, as I haven't added loads of movies in the last month, but TV show episodes is another matter.
Starlionblue 82 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I had this same problem after re-organising my libraries and then not checking my work. Tsk tsk... Question: After fixing the folder setting and refreshing the metadata, the pics are in the right place. However, are they also still in the Emby Server metadata folder or have they been deleted from that location?
dejavux2 47 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 When did this change? This is annoying!! I did not change these settings. I've always had mine downloaded to the media folders. Where are they being placed?
Luke 42079 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 When did this change? This is annoying!! I did not change these settings. I've always had mine downloaded to the media folders. Where are they being placed? Nothing has been removed, however the settings have changed from global to configurable for each library. All you need to do is click on a library in library setup and check the boxes the way you want them. Let us know if you have issues. Thanks ! 1
dejavux2 47 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Thanks Luke! I went in and fixed each library...rescanned...and it did not bring over the .nfo's or pics.... Luckily, I found the pics in the server folders under "metadata" and by searching the folders by 'Date Modified', found them and moved them over myself. After moving them and adding the "-thumb" to the end of the file names, the .nfo files started showing up. Edited January 26, 2017 by dejavux2
dejavux2 47 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 The only thing I can't find is the setting for the 'extra images' and 'fan art' folders....
dejavux2 47 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Have the 'extrafanart' and 'extrathumbs' folders automatically generate like before. Sorry... I called them the wrong names above...
Starlionblue 82 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I'm happy for it to be moved down to the individual libraries. However an option to also have a global setting would be nice.
Starlionblue 82 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 So a setting to create a setting? Haha. "An option that toggles metadata saving between a global setting and a per-folder setting." Preferably opting for "global" would just grey out the folder settings so if you change your mind those would be retained.
Starlionblue 82 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 My system drive is "only" 426 useable gigs. Having Emby store metadata on it "in the shadows" instead of plonking it on the spacious NAS volume was a bit of an issue.
