No audio from emby when not downmixing (Wetek Play2)

Hey Guys,

just got myself a new nice Android-player which will substitute my HTPC.
So all works fine - but:

When using emby, I get no audio over HDMI or anything else when not using downmix to stereo.
The player can even handle DTS, the sound goes into a Pioneer VSX830.

I tested it with the native players TV-app and that works great with even UHD (and any sound).

So when I switch the sound to direct in emby, I hear a hard "click" (like pulling a headphone-jack) and then it is silent.
I also just installed the new beta from the playstore - did not help.

Any idea?

And one other (less important) thing: I do sorting by myself, so I got folders like "Action, SciFi, Thriller etc." - the server is set to show the folders.
When I enter these on the player (first option), I enter the crappy messed "all movies in one place thing". Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks,

Maeffjus

I'm not familiar with that box but it isn't truly an "Android TV" box so there could be things it advertises that don't actually work with the Android TV interface.  One thing I noticed when I just went to their web site was that it said it had "DTS and Dolby encoding".  That isn't the same thing as allowing those source tracks to pass thru but I'm not exactly sure what they mean by that.

If you hit the "!" button on the OSD during playback, does the audio start to work?

What version of Android does the box run?

Finally, if you follow the instructions to send a log from the app, I can see if there is anything I can tell from it.  Thanks.

How to Report a Problem

Thanks for the incredible quick reply.
Im not sure how close it is to a stock android - its running 5.1.

And as soon as I hit the "!" button and answer the question with yes, sound is played, but it looks like its stereo.
At least unless the Pioneer isn't lying.
For one movie I had to do it 3 times until sound startet.
Do you still need logs? Or does the above help to clarify?
BTW, the DTS / 5.1 seems to pass through, in other apps (like the Wetek Theather TV-app) I can not change the volume on the box when on DTS.
To my this looks a lot like passthrough.

EDIT: I just sent the log!

You are not going to like my reply but here goes.

Save yourself a lot of aggrevation and get a Fire TV box or a proper Android TV box, the cheapest being a Xiamomi MI box 3 4k.

I too had a cheap android box which ebr helped with but its not worth the hassle and it still has issues.

Just saying "been there, done that, got the tee-shirt"

Hey Mark,

This no option. It has some really nice features which I have not found elsewhere, for example it has a changeable tuner.

And it is not cheapo, it is much more than expensive than most others.

But I have chosen wisely after checking the features of a lot of boxes.

Regards,

Matthias

Hi

I take most of my previous post back. It looks as though it does have some merit. For me the inbuilt tuner is against the server centric strategy of emby. But YMMV.

However, not sure how standard the implentation of Android TV spec it is.

That is the issue when supporting the platform for the devs.

It's not Android TV, it's Android proper.  The only true ATV boxes out at the moment are the Shield, Mi Box, and soon the airTV.

I agree with you, that it is not the same principle with the tuner. But I think the time to Zapp between the channels is to long when using network streaming.

Also this box can handle 4k, which a lot of systems can not.

However, could you see in the log what the problem is?

Or any other idea how to solve this?

Unfortunately, this looks like the same kind of issue that exists with the Mi box.  Even though the device reports DTS should work - it doesn't.

I'd also go strange ways - any config what I could edit / change?

Might be worth trying one of the inbuilt Kodi versions. You could add Emby for Kodi as an add-in to Kodi (obviously I guess) so it'll use your Emby server database. No idea if it'll help with the audio, but Kodi is supposed to be quite good with playing formats. I have a Play 2 but it goes straight into the TV, only get stereo anyway.

Also, in the server, if you click on Settings (the person outline in the top right corner), then Home Screen, go to My Views, and uncheck boxes, where it says "Folders that are unchecked will be displayed by themselves in their own view' hopefully it'll help with the folder thing (if I found the right option of course).
