They allow you to collectivize drives of any type or size. They spread the data over all the drives, but keep the files whole. There are options to stripe and backup. Pool/drive management is much easier. If one drive fails (and you haven't enabled backup) all you lose is the data on that drive and the pool continues to function. You should check it out. You can use stablebit free for a month.
pir8radio 1312 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 windows has this built in now, with support for two-way or three-way mirrors as well as parity so you do not loose data if 1 or 2 drives fail. I have not yet messed with it... but sounds promising google "Windows Storage Spaces".

Just today, I got my new HTPC case, (pictures here) which is like that. It comes with one hot-swap 5 bay and one standard 5 bay. Both are removable/swap-able. Edited January 8, 2017 by Doofus

I would rather go for less money on the rosewill's,(where nothing is attached or pre installed), and use that money for drives. What back planes do the Norco's use ?
