mastrmind11 722 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 indeed it does. Wonder what the specs look like.
Guest asrequested Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I was working for dish when they bought sling. They've had plans for it for a long time. Are they planning to provide internet, too?
dcrdev 255 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Is this any better than: https://wetek.com/product/wetek-play2 ^ With the above the thing that prevented me purchasing one was the fact that background recording didn't work within Android TV - only if you installed OpenELEC could you do that; but then you lose access to Netflix which was ofcourse the appeal of such a device.

The Wetek is not an Android TV box, it's an Android box. Why wouldn't background recording work if you used the Emby Android app? Edited January 3, 2017 by mastrmind11
ebr 16172 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I guess it is all about what the hardware capability is. Every Android TV box has Netflix, sling and OTA channels (with an appropriate "adapter"). For Emby specifically, I'm not sure we'll be able to access their tuner unless they publish some sort of API for it (not likely I would think) or it just happens to actually be an HDHR .
dcrdev 255 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 The Wetek is not an Android TV box, it's an Android box. Why wouldn't background recording work if you used the Emby Android app? Yeah but you CAN run Android TV on it - what I'm saying is that natively Wetek's dvr backend only runs if you have it running in the foreground. Since Emby doesn't have it's own dvr backend - you'll need something running on the device at all times for Emby to be able to interface with it.

Where did you find the Android TV OS rom? I was under the impression that Android TV only exists on Google approved devices, which this isn't. Also not sure what you mean by Emby not having it's own DVR backend. I use Emby every day to DVR stuff. ebr's post makes more sense, since Emby would probably never be able to integrate w/ the Wetek's tuner, but I'm not sure that's the point you're trying to make. My point was, if you currently have Emby setup to live stream using an HDHR, then all you'd have to do is install the Emby client on the Wetek and it would work fine. Granted buying a device w/ a built in tuner and never use it is a bit wasteful, but if the guts are good enough I'd consider it just for streaming and let my Emby box server up the EPG/DVR functionality.
