Multiple Files in Folder Causing Issues

Hi, i've had these problems since pretty much day 1 and none of the recommended solutions have worked.

The first is where i have two versions of a movie (typically the normal and 3d versions) in the same folder and also have "extras" in an extras subfolder. in this situation the extras will have metadata created and they will show up in the Movies view

the second is one i've only seen in one instance but i cant see whats wrong. i just have the 3d and normal version of Frozen in one folder, both correctly named but only the 3d version shows up in the library, but the badge shows 2 versions. with all other movies these display separately.

Hi @@Spaceboy, the issue is the multi-version naming guide is not being followed. The answer has always been available to you in our wiki:

Scroll down to "Multi-Version Movies". Let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks !

hi, that does fix the first problem where extras were showing in the movie library. i never realised that all movies required the tag

unfortunately it converts all of the first problem into the second problem and i don't see a fix for that? There doesnt seem to be a way to get the 3d version to play in the second example provided above? i've seen you say previously that the player selects the most appropriate version but how would it decide between 2d and 3d?

It gives preference towards what will direct play. There is opportunity to improve this in the future, thanks.

well in the example i provided if one is going to direct play, the second is. correct me if i'm wrong but the only way emby distinguishes between the two is the 3d.hsbs tag that i have set

so, really the answer to my second question is that at this time 3d and 2d movies should be stored in separate folders in order for the 3d version to be playable?

Maybe a better way to describe it is that each app will choose the one that it thinks will be most efficient. this is based on several factors including direct play, what kind of transcoding might be used, codecs, etc.

If you want to decide on another factor besides efficiency then at the moment your best bet is keeping them separate.

Or as the note states

Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". If this requirement is not met, they will be treated as separate videos.
