Hi,

 

I have recently found that new TV series added are not having the seasons added to them. In metadata manager if I expand an older show it shows the seasons then the episodes, for new series it has nothing. The same is true when viewed from the web client the show can be found and episodes watched by browsing through them but the seasons section is empty.

 

As I manage most of my playback from Kodi I had not noticed this until today, but it appears to date back a few months at least. The issue is there in the Android client too so appears to be with the metadata Emby is passing. 

 

Has anyone else encountered this or have any suggestions? I have tried a refresh all from the metadata manager but with no joy.

And the files are physically present in the season folders within the same TV series?

 

Or is it totally new TV seasons?  Which you've ensured are stored in a location that your library is set to scan?

A specific example would help with screenshots.  What is the folder structure?

Folder structure etc was all unchanged and all files present. Issue was present for both existing series that has a new season start and completely new series..... all files are added and named by Sickrage so the naming convention etc has never changed and the episodes were present and could be watched by all clients, they were just difficult to find from the web/android clients.

 

Good news though, as of this morning the issue has gone and all seasons are as expected, I suspect that the refresh all from metadata manager solved the issue but just took some time to complete.

 

Unsure what the cause was, I will try adding some new series and see if the issue reappears...... if it does I will update this thread with more information.

After adding a new season the issue was present again, a metadata refresh of the affected show resolved it inside Emby and I believe the cause of the issue was the metadata sickrage was writing as part of its post processing, I have now turned this off and will leave the metadata creation to Emby.

What server OS version?  Sounds like the server just has/hadn't identified everything yet.

Yeah, this is the key.  If some external program was creating a metadata file (nfo) with limited or invalid information, then that will cause trouble because we always assume that, if you have a file with the media, it should take priority.

Hi Like,

 

It appears the refresh all has over written the original sickrage .nfo's so I will need to reproduce them. Can you confirm it is only the episode nfo you need or are you after the tvshow.nfo as well?

 

I also wonder if the issue is the way sickrage was pushing updates to emby, I turned this off at the same time. Sickrage uses the Emby API to notify Emby of new episodes, but this doesn't appear to do a full scan. I will try turning metadata creation back on and leaving the notification off and see if this changes things too.

Also, instead of doing the refresh all, can you instead just try running a library scan? thanks.

Hi Luke

 

Ran a library scan with no change, the refresh of the series will fix it.

 

There is no season nfo created.

 

The season seems to be identified by Emby as there are season03-poster, ...-landscape and ....-banner images created, which I don't believe Sickrage will be producing.

to be honest your sample nfo looks like it was written by emby. you may need to act a little quicker to get a sample created by sickrage before emby overwrites it. can you do that? perhaps shut down emby while sickrage is creating a new episode. thanks.

Another episode nfo below. This was done with Emby shutdown so should be untouched Sickrage does have a Mediabrowser option that will write season.xml etc but I have only ever used the Kodi formatted output. 

 

If Emby has already rewritten the metadata then I would have expected the seasons to be present on the web interface, what metadata drives the seasons section and what would stop it been updated?

The other thing I have found is that a "replace all metadata" refresh doesn't fix it, "search for missing metadata data" does.

They are basically the same thing so I'm sure it does fix it. It probably just had not completed by a certain time and it gave you a certain impression.

Makes sense, I am just impatient.

 

Any thoughts on what the issue is if Emby is over writing the metadata I would have expected the seasons to appear?

@@skinnzl i'm still not quite sure because the sickrage nfo doesn't look that bad. have you performed the same test without the nfo? in other words, shut down emby, let sickrage create the files, then delete the nfo's that sickrage created before emby has a chance to see them. i would be curious to know the results of that test. obviously if you do this with the server off you'll need to run a library scan after starting up. thanks.
