Spyderturbo007 19 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) I'm running my two LAN Kodi setups using the default AppUser created during setup. I'm starting to play around with the streaming service now that I got my Premier key. I have the AppUser set with no password, as I'm not sure what effect a password would have on a Kodi installation. I don't want to have to be inputting a password every time I reboot or something. I have the user hidden from the login screen, but if someone gets my IP and knows the port number, they can still do a manual login. I've disabled the AppUser from deleting files, but I'd like to know how to remove it from the available list? If I can't do that, how much effect does a password have on Kodi? Would I have to resync my database? Do you have to input the password each time you reboot? Edited January 3, 2017 by Spyderturbo007
ebr 16182 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Consider giving the user a password and then use the Easy PIN feature for in-network access and don't fill in a PIN. This will require a password externally but not internally. The only caveat on that is I don't know exactly how the Kodi plugin handles this and that's why I moved the topic over here.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 The password is only asked once at the time of the initial setup. The access is valid for as long as the authentication key remains in effect. Authentication key are revoked if the user is disabled, or the password is changed. If the authentication key is revoked, the user will be asked for the password again. To put it simply, the password should only be asked once. Hope this answers your question. One other question though, if I implement a password now, will it affect anything I've done with my library, or will Kodi just open a dialog the next time it tries to sync and request the password? Angelblue05 4132 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 It will just ask you for the password when the addon will try to access your server. It doesn't affect anything in your Kodi library. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
