vigilian 1 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Hi, since we all have some problems with some video files especially with remux video through chrome but also on other support, it would be great to have one the video page and not when we are launching the video, the possibility to ask the server to transcode directly in a specific format. Like that we can see avoid a certain amount of problems ....
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 You can pre-transcode your content using the sync feature. You can also do this outside the app using Handbrake to ensure everything is in an ideal format for your playback devices.
Luke 42085 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 You can learn how to do this by checking out the folder sync feature: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Folder%20Sync Let us know if you have any questions. thanks !
vigilian 1 Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 it's really difficult for me to understand why everyone are not into this. I will give you some examples that I've putted on plex forum too. I don't look to bypass my problems here but you need to consider that there is at least for you a bigger problem in playing some video than for plex. We have rarely problems of incompatible videos with plex, your software on the other hand have many problems with that, and I have done some posts already about it. So my way could be a better way for the consumer to use and bypass the problems temporarily. And it's a easy way to implement since you just have to add a little sub-menu to the play button, nothing really expensive in code. some usecase here from my post on the plex forum : For example, if I'm in the metro, I know that I won't have more than a certain connection so I will set up the movie for that bitrate, but then if I'm on surface I would have 4G more accurately so I would like to have higher bitrate. different friends house to cast to their chromecast but they don't have the same connection availability. Or it could depends of the screen on which you want to watch it and you could want to play the movie with a different quality than your general settings. if in any case the original transcoding format doesn't work then you could still be able to play your movie by transcoding it to another bitrate. Because if you don't do that then you can't play the movie at all only if you change in general the bitrate of every movie since you will have to launch the movie which is impossible since it will result in an error. And should I recall you that sync ask for space which not everyone have enough of it?
vigilian 1 Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 and why have I been moved to general ? since my feature request is for UI web or any other app ?
Luke 42085 Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Hi @@vigilian, I did not move your thread so I apologize if someone else did. We're happy to help resolve your issue. Can we please look at a specific example? Please provide the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
vigilian 1 Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 I'm just disappointed that a simple feature as that doesn't have support
pir8radio 1312 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) I may be reading this thread wrong, but is @@vigilian just asking for the option to pick your playback bitrate? If that is the case this is already in emby.. Even if the video has not started streaming, or you have a really slow connection you can change the bitrate after you hit play... I guess i'm missing something. Edited January 6, 2017 by pir8radio
