Problem with persons files in metadata folder

Thanks a lot, Luke.
Appreciate your efforts!
Maybe it would it be possible to make it optional, so all the users without needs like mine could continue "as is"?
But I guess, that's what you mean by "settings".
Unfortunately I do not think my programming skills is of any help here.
Have done a lot of programming but never in graphics.

Those kinds of settings are a fine idea and something a new contributor could look at, thanks.

From the depth of my lack of knowledge ... how much extra work would it be to clone the plugin into one with the people xml added in.
This way the choice could be done by choosing which plugin to install.

And no existing users would be harmed.
Double maintenance, I know.

I am going to just move the old person metadata support into the xml metadata. As this plugin is a community addition, i will have to leave it to you guys to test and report issues.

If existing users of the xml metadata plugin start complaining about slow people refreshes, the guidance will be to uninstall the plugin, or continue to use it and live with the long refreshes, or help contribute towards enhancing the plugin with settings.

I do not have the bandwidth to become the sole developer of this, so in the event users are unhappy with it and no contributors emerge, we may be forced to remove it again.

@@Luke should there be a "Metadata Reader and Metadata Saver" option for People?

Not that I know what I am doing but I got 3.1.8.0 to install by rebuilding dll from Source.

I've excluded people from that config page right now because the option doesn't make sense unless you have the plugin. I need to obviously make it more dynamic and show it if there are actually any people savers installed. but until i'm able to do that I'd rather not have it there.

Since all of these are opt-out, it should be on by default if that's what you want.

Sorry disturbing you again - and it is NOT to be pushy.

But I cannot quite figure out the status.

Noticed in issue "Actors Metadata not Refreshing" it was mentioned: "The latest version of the plugin supports saving people xml".

But I guess this does not have much to do with my wish ?

BTW: as mentioned in #49, I do not have a people metadata fetcher active in Emby.

Basically being able to edit and store actor information (bio) locally.

Or, maybe more correct, having Emby use the actors data, I maintain myself in the "People" metadata folder. Instead of looking it up on the Internet.

If you see my posts #43, #47 and #49 it might become more clear.

Thought you were aiming at a solution in post #50, but maybe I misunderstood it.

Then try the xml plugin.

I am using the xml plugin.

But has that been changed to read person, xml from the People metadata folder?

I have not seen the "Refresh People" task run for a longer time - and I thought that would be the penalty.

Wow!

I'll test that for sure and get back.

And "yes" it is :-)

Thank you so much Luke and Happy2Play !!!

As a positive spin-off it looks like I can lookup the actors from the Emby for WMC square theme if the actors data has been imported from person.xml.

The square theme has for a long time crashed Emby for WMC when clicking an actor.

So I most likely just needs to force reload all the actors.

Which leads to the question: what triggers the xml plugin to read person.xml - modify date, checksum, ... ?

BTW: The Refresh People task seems to run faster now. With ~25000 actors it takes just 20 seconds to complete having changed 1 people.xml.

Thanks, Luke:-)

But, if I may - it would be very helpful for me, when writing a script, to know what makes the xml plugin update actor data.

Will I have to make a text change in the xml file or is it just a modifcation timestamp?

Super, couldn't be easier.

Thanks a lot.
