lotusaurus 0 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 I'm trying out Emby because of the "Home video & photos" (HV&P) content type, which P**x doesn't seem to offer. It's great that when I get into any folder, I can see both videos and photos together. But I'm trying to understand what I should, or should not, be seeing when I see the folders in the library. I'm using a browser to access the photos and videos, and on the Home page under My Media, I have two libraries with HV&P content. Let's call them Big and Small. Big has lots of folders and a few subfolders, most with a combination of videos and photos. On the Home page, I see the Big library and it shows a few thumbnails in the library icon on the Home page. When I click on the icon, it just shows the folders within Big as coloured blocks with the folder name (whether I choose Poster, Poster card or Thumb view). Small has just one folder with videos and photos, so when I click on it, I get straight into the folder (no folder icon) and see the photo and video thumbnails for each item. However, on the Home page, the icon for the Small library also displays as just a coloured block (this time with the library name). Ideally, I would like to have thumbnails in both Home page icons for Big and Small, but it seems odd that there are icons for Big, but not for Small, when both libraries have the same content type. And within a library, I would have expected to see thumbnails for the folder icons, instead of the coloured blocks. I've confirmed that Emby has finished scanning both libraries. Is there something I need to do to get the folder thumbnails, or is this just not possible with HV&P content?
arrbee99 1815 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Am sure someone will chime in who actually knows what they're talking about, but I think for thumbnails of photo folders you have to do a bit of DIY. Just create an image (square I guess) of a suitable thumbnail you'd like and save it as 'folder.jpg' in the relevant folder. Maybe 400x400 pixels but I think up to you. I just did these boring ones, which i obviously need to update to a square format...
lotusaurus 0 Posted December 30, 2016 Author Posted December 30, 2016 Ouch, that's a lot of work, considering the number of folders I have. Clearly Emby can produce thumbnails at the library level (though not consistently in my examples), so I was hoping it could produce them at the folder level.
arrbee99 1815 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Bear in mind that - I'm not a developer, just a user, so don't know an awful lot about it, and - I don't use Emby for photos a lot anyway. However, as far as I can tell, Emby can generate images for folders that do have actual images in them (maybe containing folders as well) , but not (I think) for folders that only contain more folders. So it mightn't be so bad if you haven't done a lot of folder nesting. On the other hand the coloured squares aren't tooooo bad if you have some fairly logical names attached to them.
Luke 42078 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 That sounds correct. @@lotusaurus can you confirm what @@arrbee99 is saying in post #4? Thanks !
Mopar_Mudder 14 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Notice the same thing, just starting to use the Photo Video type. I can say though that even subfolders with images in them still only show a colored square. Seems kind of random, I have folders that have combinations of photo, video, and subfolders in them. Some of those folders have images and some only have colored squares, even though they have the same type of content in them. Think I just found one thing. The folders that I happen to get a picture on just happen to have an image in them that the name on the file matches the folder name. So it looks like no subfolders get images unless you name one of your pictures to match the folder name, which is not really practical. Edited January 27, 2017 by Mopar_Mudder
derelict 0 Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I do have the same issue. And i'm wondering why nobody else is asking this. I do have structured "Private Photo Collection" Folders ... but they all just show up as colored squares ... i was expecting, that emby is somehow able to generate "Cover Arts" for those folders... maybe with 5 random photos from with that folder as kind of a "collage" ? Do i really have to do all that work (with folder.jpg files) myself ? Please see the below screenshot ... all those Folders have Pictures in them ... Wouldn't it be nice.. if those folders whould be shown with some random photos as a cover art ? and wouldn't it be nice if i could just select/choose one photo and set it as "Album Cover" just while browsing my library (just like in facebook) ?
Luke 42078 Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 hi @@derelict, we do do this. can you show the contents of one of these folders? thanks.
derelict 0 Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) @@Luke Sure: This is the latest Emby Version (Premium) running on QNAP Storage... just in case this matters.. Edited October 13, 2017 by derelict
jccasti 0 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hi @@derelict. Beforehand I apologize for not following the thread of the conversation, but the question is about Home video & photos folder. Does the search function work well for you? Can you do the image search? In my case, in the file structure, I have mixed photos and videos and the search only brings me results of videos, does not bring me any results of photos. I have the latest version of Emby (3.2.33.0) and I installed it on 2 platforms, Windows 10 Pro and FreeNAS version FreeNAS-9.10.2-U6 (561f0d7a1) and in both behaves in the same way. Thanks
derelict 0 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hi @@jccasti ... This Thread is about Folder Cover Arts ... not search function ;-) So i have no information on the "search" topic as i'm having issues with coverart here ;-)
jccasti 0 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hi @derelict I apologize for the insistence, perhaps I was not very clear with my question, although it is not part of the topic. It is more a personal questions, related to your installation of Emby. The questions are: Does the search for photos work well for you? Yes or no. Does the search give you any results, when looking for something, for example, of a particular year? Yes or no. Thanks
derelict 0 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 so any update ? ... known bug or am i doing wrong ?
Luke 42078 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Once again we thank you for your patience. Thanks !

derelict 0 Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Hi @@pir8radio ... Thank you for the clarification .. i was "almost" thinking this way ... like "wtf" ??? ;-) .. as i've said.. i really appreciate the help... so no problem with being patient ... as long as i know for "what" i'm being patient for ;-) Maybe something Like "I haven't forgot about you.. working on it... thank you for your patience" would have been more clearer to me ;-) So thank you .. !
Luke 42078 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 This is resolved for the next release of Emby Server, thanks.
Tester 45 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Somewhat related, how does the Photos and Videos ( from a folder structure ) work ? Do I put the videos in the same folders as pictures ?
