teiva 18 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) I helped setup emby server on my bro's windows 10 box. Do you have to pay the premiere subscription for the core features? My bro is locked out of his emby server. Edited December 29, 2016 by teivalp
Luke 42077 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Hi @@teiva, no, you do not. Can you please describe the issue in more detail? Thanks !
teiva 18 Posted January 8, 2017 Author Posted January 8, 2017 (edited) Sorry for the lack of details, @@Luke. I've been trying to help him troubleshoot over the phone and I don't know exactly what he's seeing. It sounds like we accidentally installed Emby theater and theater locking him out from the server without a premium account. Installing via website not the windows store. "Upgrade by 1/22 for unlimited playback" when in the server dashboard. How do we manually uninstall emby theater? Or verify it was correctly uninstalled? Edited January 8, 2017 by teiva
Luke 42077 Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Use the windows control panel to add and remove programs.
teiva 18 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) Ok so I installed emby server on a clean windows 10 box. I couldn't repro my brother's behavior which I do recall seeing on xmas day about ..."Upgrade by xxxx for unlimited playback". I definitely can see his frustrations regarding whether emby server or emby theater was properly installed or uninstalled. Emby server 3.1.2 Win10ProX64 Version: 10.0.14393 1. Tried uninstalling using ...\System\MediaBrowser.Uninstaller.exe 2. 3. Programs > uninstall a program 4. No listing of emby anything. No idea how to remove it. teiva 18 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) Yeah I got nothing in mine. Edited January 9, 2017 by teiva
Luke 42077 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 @@Happy2Play are you seeing it in all of your test boxes?
teiva 18 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 I don't see the entry on my windows 10 box. My main emby server lives on Ubuntu server. I do not see it on my bro's box when i was fiddling it on xmas day, even though I got it running on 3.0.8500. I could report back later if you want to see another test case on win10. I'll start up a new VM when I get a chance. Thanks @@Luke
Happy2Play 9780 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 @@Luke I see Emby Server via Control panel, as I just used it to fix a services issue I was having since changing Windows users.
ebr 16172 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 You didn't start with a portable install, right?
Luke 42077 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Ah yes that could be it. If you are running portable there is no installer, thus no uninstaller.
teiva 18 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 I grabbed the zip from github (https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/releases/tag/3.1.2) mainly because my bro was saying the installer from stable release (https://emby.media/windows-server.html) was failing. I'll see if I can repro it on a clean VM. Grabbing the portable install resolved all his issues minus the prompt "Upgrade by xxx for unlimited playback" What do I need to manually remove if I want Emby portable install off my windows 10 box? 1. The emby.windows folder 2. Emby service Any other files (garbage files, registries) living outside my portable install directory that I need to worry about removing? I don't see anything in %appdata% or ...\ProgramData related to emby or mediabrowser.
Luke 42077 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 @@teiva, just for comparison, back in the day when i tested MediaMonkey, I used the portable install. There is no uninstaller, and I did not have any expectation that there would be one either. The same goes for the portable installations of Vlc and MpcHc.
teiva 18 Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 @@Luke I agree the more I think about it. My main concern is to straighten out these setup issues before my bro starts walking over to the other side, whom I shall not name. Ple--. I've recommended Emby to a co-worker as well because you guys are awesome and so is Emby. He had issues getting it working as well for his QNAP NAS and dropped it. Some people don't want to hassle with asking for help and I get it. I'm a big believer in what you guys are doing. I'll do what I can to help identify issues. The ease of setup seems to be the biggest hurdle at the moment from what I've seen. If you guys were to implement google home and/or ecco integration then it would really set you apart from the competition...IMHO Thank you, All.
Luke 42077 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Should we just not offer portable setup (@@Happy2Play). If we didn't offer it in the first place you would never had an opportunity to perceive a problem with it.
