Heckler 147 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) I run emby on a W7 64 Pro machine, 8GB ram, 1GB video ram, 250GB SSD with just the OS and essentials running... The whole system is as streamlined as I can get it, if a process isn't required for smooth running and security... it's disabled. But I've noticed that the same machine, which I also use for media centre... can take an absolute age to load the emby client... We're not talking about a delay in contacting the server, logging in, checking credentials... I have the user account saved to auto log in each time, and yet it can take anywhere between 30-120 seconds before the homescreen shows up, and then a further 30+ seconds before images are fully populated. This is on the same machine as emby server is installed. Yet when logging in from the browser client on another machine via wifi... it's logging in and displaying images in just a few seconds... Same goes when trying to any android device over wifi to the same server... 2 different devices tested. Even logging in via the browser client on the emby server loads everything up 10 times quicker than the media centre client. Why does it take minutes within media centre on the same machine? Luke 42085 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Hi @@Heckler, thanks for the feedback. If you can please provide an Emby for WMC log, we can get a proper answer to that. You can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/793-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks !
ebr 16195 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 More than likely, the machine that is slow is configured to log in automatically to an IP address that is incorrect now (changed). If you turn off auto login, then login manually, then turn it back on, it would fix that.
Heckler 147 Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Been away over xmas and server was shut down, so not had a chance to boot up media centre, log in and create a log yet... Just trying to comprehend one of the changes made to 3.1.2 that has me a little riled up at the moment shaking my head in disbelief... I'd happily live with the long load times if that eyesore was removed. More than likely, the machine that is slow is configured to log in automatically to an IP address that is incorrect now (changed). If you turn off auto login, then login manually, then turn it back on, it would fix that. It's logging into the exact same address it's always logged into... it's logging in on the same machine the server is running... the internal IP address of the server is 192.168.0.4... the media center plugin is also on ip 192.168.0.4... I've logged out, logged in with my test account... logged back out, logged back in and so forth. I honestly fail to see how it could be an IP issue when they're both running on the same system... is it trying to send data out via your servers and then back in to my machine... Because that doesn't make sense at all... but it would at least offer a possible explanation as my VPN has NAT issues that make using emby connect externally impossible and the only solution that my provider has is to use a single server in Sweden that allows NAT connections, but leaves me with a measly 1MB connection that makes streaming virtually impossible. Yeah.. I could turn of the VPN... but that manes my ISP can snoop and monitor anything I do and I object to that on principle and will do everything I can to make it impossible for them or our nasty little govt to spy on me and datamine my private info for profit.... There's a good reason I have a VPN and so that's not ever being turned off. But why that would be the cause of logging in on the same machine as the server runs baffles me. Will try and get a log sorted... Is there a specific log for the media centre client I need or just the normal server log? It's also worth noting that it's slowed down over time... but seemingly has nothing to do with the size of my database. When I built this system nearly 3yrs ago, it was flying... the SSD is optimised for best performance and windows loads very quickly as do most programs installed. It's loading 3x faster than my gaming rig which is running a striped RAID setup on a couple of fast 500GB mechanicals. Since building it emby has gone through many updates and even a couple of forced reinstalls due to failed/problems caused by updates. But each new update seems to slow down the media centre client a little more. Edited January 1, 2017 by Heckler
gjviii 48 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 i saw the same issues a few releases ago. Once i disabled the theme i was using (forget the name of it now) and went with chocolate, the boot time went back to normal. If you are using a theme, maybe try removing it and see if it boots faster without it?
