Hi,

I'm moving my Emby server install from FreeNAS to unRaid. the libraries will not be in exactly the same folders/shares. Is there any way to maintain viewing history for all users when I do the move?

thanks in advance

We store that information keyed off of global IDs (like from tmdb) to allow this type of thing.  So, if you give the library scan the time to re-identify everything properly, it should all come back.

this always makes me smile now, coming from the old mb2.x days where it was based on location i think... this is a small thing but very helpful

Thanks for the info, but how does that tie in with the old and new users? They are not Emby Connect users, they're only local to my install of Emby on the FreeNAS box and as such will be created (with the same names) on the new Emby unRaid box.

Hi @@grizlyadams, this is fine. The data is stored in your database. I would suggest using the Server Backup & Restore plugin (which requires Emby Premiere), as it will help make this process very easy for you.

Hmmm.... that's not supposed to happen :).  Can you please try restarting your server and , if the issue persists, please post a server log from that session.  Instructions here.  Thanks.

:(  I can't do that now - there are 3 copy sessions running, copying 12 TB of data and they won't be finished any time soon.

The instructions link only refers to Windows logs location - this is a FreeNAS emby jail - I can get the logs from that if I know where to find them....

thanks

is there any other way to add the backup/restore plugin?

Have you tried restarting the server process not the machine itself?  The machine would be the next step.

Go to the Dashboard and look at the "Paths" drop down section.

Since his server won't start, he can't get there now.  However, all the log is probably going to tell us now is that same "Bad Gateway" message on any attempt to get out.  So, the issue is that the app cannot access the network.

Correct - can't get to the dashboard.

i had to change some permissions to get btsync to work - I'm guessing that broke Emby - i can't see how though as the perms i changed were nothing to do with Emby, they were just on the Media shares.

So my situation now is that I have less than no interest in getting this godawful FreeNAS/Emby to work ever again, especially after how simple and easy unRaid/docker/Emby was to set up. (I regret ever touching FreeNAS now), but I would like to keep my viewing history for all the users. ( I bought Premier to be able to do the backup/restore and now can't do it. Oh, the irony) Is there any other way to keep the history?

thanks

quick update - its the jail that's broken. I created another jail with btsync in and it works fine.

hi @@grizlyadams, what you can try to do is grab the userdata_v2.db file from your old install. then on the new install, copy that into the data folder. then delete the library.db file and startup the server. let us know if this helps. thanks !

thanks for the suggestion - sadly, freeNAS has helpfully destroyed the jail when I tired to reinstall Emby so, somewhat inevitably, i'm back to scratch.

Looking forward to a life without FreeNAS

thanks
