Just as I asked in the title:

Why isn't Emby Theater available for Android TV?

This seems like an obvious thing to do... unless I missed something?

Well we have a TV app already on android tv, so having two may cause confusion about which one should be used.

Sure, but there's multiple TV-centric clients on other platforms (Windows and Xbox One for example), so why not for Android TV?

I get the concern, but this concept has already been broken.

Wait... is Emby Theater even ON Android?

Is this the only reason?

The Android mobile application is basically the same as Theater.

If you mean the android tv app, it's not quite the same. The layout is much cleaner in theater and in my humble opinion a bit more user friendly.

In the current android tv app getting to show the entire movie library is a bit of a pain.. you have to dig 3-4 levels before you get to them... but i still use it and think its a great app.

When they get to theater on android tv i will be an early adopter for sure and I don't buy that confusion line by Luke... it probably means its not as much of a priority since the current app is functional.

That being said... i want theater on android tv NOW!!!!

Yes and no. There are no technical reasons why we can't have Theater on android, but we are really getting serious about consistency amongst apps, so we want you to be happy with both the android tv and theater apps. Then at that point you just use the one that is available for your platform. So yes as we march towards consistency, that means both apps are going to have to adapt a little in order to achieve that.

Are your issues with android tv purely related to hierarchy, in other words, suppose that were resolved, what would you think then?

I would definitely be happier but overall i like the look and feel of theater more. I would still want it on the platform.

What about android boxes less than 5.0 that currently don't have any options? Edited by Vidman

I meant Android mobile sorry didn't realize the TV app is different. I always assumed it was the same with UI improvement for remotes etc. It is actually surprising to me that people want Theater as it seems lacking compared to other apps.

That maybe so but it is better for navigation with a remote on a TV than the mobile app Edited by Vidman

No you don't...

Get to the grid view you are wanting in your movie library.  Now hit the settings cog in the upper right and choose "Grid" as the default view.  Now, every time you open that library, it will go straight to the grid.

Wow interesting... i did not know that! Very nice feature! Thanks ebr.

Now please don't get me wrong, the app is amazing and most issues i have with it are nitpicks or in the previous case simple ignorance. I just want more choices of emby goodness in my house.

That would be a valid reason, yes.

For some reason i also think that Theater is more beautifull than the android tv app...

I have to disagree with you :)

Personally I've never liked the METRO design, especially the SPOTLIGHT area, even on the Xbox One/360.

I like the ATV app, as it's basic but fully functional and easy to use.

I hope the ATV app as it currently looks, isn't replaced by ET.

That's fine, the point i was making earlier is that there is room for both. Especially since theater is now easier to integrate on more platforms.
