TheShanMan 40 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I did some searching and didn't find the answer (is there a FAQ/wiki?). I had my collection defined using local drive paths, and in order to access my collection from WMC on another computer, I converted them to unc. Some of the metadata/watched status seemed to migrate but a lot didn't, and for those that didn't, I have no images, descriptions, etc. So my basic question is how can metadata be properly migrated when restructuring collections? And I'm hoping this can be done after the fact to repair my setup.
ebr 16169 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 You would need to be saving the metadata within the media folders. This is an option in the server. Nothing can be done after the fact, you'll have to re-build it if this wasn't happening before you re-structured. As for playstates, we manage those based on tmdb ID instead of location so those should have been fine - as long as the items are properly identified. It sounds like maybe they aren't being properly identified in all cases.
TheShanMan 40 Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 If I switch back to local drive paths, will that restore me to where I was before this mess, and then I could switch to saving metadata in the media folders? And what are the disadvantages to saving metadata in the folders? To avoid cluttering up the folders? I can live with that. Anything else? Oh, and I upgraded the server and the metadata seems to have filled in, so I guess it was a glitch in the server that worked itself out once it restarted. The playstates might all be fine - I just lumped that in with metadata because that was one of my concerns.
ebr 16169 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 There is no reason to switch them back. Just turn on the save option and let the server build the metadata back in.
TheShanMan 40 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Actually, there is. Some of my metadata was hand edited. I'd rather not have to go through my collection, find those items, and rebuild them if it can be avoided.
ebr 16169 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Then, it might work as we don't delete items from the db.
