MB Rich 4 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I've been having a problem with MB3 whereby all my media disappears or fails to play. I've got the latest (beta) server software installed on the same HTPC as the MBC client (192.168.1.150 in the logs). The media files are hosted on a NAS (Thecus n5200) and the paths are mapped using UNC with the IP address. This happens pretty regularly (couple of times a day), and at first you browse to the file and try to play it (using MPC-HC as an external player). The splash screen comes up, but instead of the video title showing in the top left, you get nothing and have to 'Stop' to return to MBC. Backing out of the directoy to the EHS and navigating back to the media causes everything to disappear eventually but through the process artwork starts to go missing. If I drop to the desktop, and open up the folder in explorer it opens first time and everything shows and plays perfectly by double clicking to open in MPC-HC, so to me it doesn't suggest a networking problem, or if it is, maybe MB3 is over-sensitive and drops the connection too soon. Restarting MBC and WMC does nothing, but restarting the whole PC does bring everything back. Anyone have any ideas? PS I'm a long-time MB user, and am very impressed with the direction MB3 has taken. server-63526390255.txt Edited January 27, 2014 by MB Rich
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 MediaBrowser Server has permissions to view the folders on your NAS? The log has a lot of errors where the system can't open the file.
ebr 16169 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Sounds like a networking problem to me. Why use IP address and not machine name? Do you have static IP addresses for all your machines?
ebr 16169 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Yeah, several system cannot open the file errors in there. Looks to be a network or other access problem.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 MediaBrowser Server has permissions to view the folders on your NAS? The log has a lot of errors where the system can't open the file. Yep, and it works fine most of the time. Sounds like a networking problem to me. Why use IP address and not machine name? Do you have static IP addresses for all your machines? Thought I'd save myself the added point of failure of a hostname lookup. The IPs are static and both the NAS and the HTPC are always on and do not allow the network cards to go into power saving mode. Where can I go from here?
MB Rich 4 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Something new to add... When MBC loses the files, if I drop to the desktop (with WMC & MBC open in the background) I cannot open the fileserver in windows explorer. Double clicking just does nothing. Closing MBC doesn't fix it. But, closing WMC as well suddenly means I can access the fileserver again. All the while the fileserver is accesible from other PCs in the house. Strange?
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 That is weird. Sounds like a permission or routing issue. Everything on the same subnet?
GhostRider 49 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Are the NAS folders watched folders within the WMC configuration? If so try temporarily taking them out of the library locations in WMC and just use MBC to browse the NAS folder locations.
MB Rich 4 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 That is weird. Sounds like a permission or routing issue. Everything on the same subnet? Yup. Are the NAS folders watched folders within the WMC configuration? If so try temporarily taking them out of the library locations in WMC and just use MBC to browse the NAS folder locations. They are watched within WMC as I use WMC to view photos and music. I'll try removing them to see what the effect is.
MB Rich 4 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Just a quick follow-up to this one. I removed my NAS folders from the WMC watch folder list and voila, it seems (so far) to have solved my problem.
