Recorded TV Can't Identify using TVDB

Hi,

I use NextPVR with schedules direct for recording live TV and most of the time Emby identifies it correctly from the "unset" recording folder.

However I have big problems with Horizon by the BBC. It either identifies it as a movie or it can't actually get any metadata for it.

I thought If I change it's type to TV then I can use the identify menu to correct it. TVDB has the programs all on it but that is not an option in the identify list.

Is it possible to have the identify option list all sources? It seems to still think it is a movie in the background even though I changed it and doesn't display TVDB as a source.

Thanks!

Hi, the mixed content type is always difficult and that's why we highly recommend explicitly defining content types for your libraries. Can you show us a screenshot of the folder structure? Thanks.

Hi Luke,

I understand setting it to a specific type would be better but that would probably require more manual intervention as NextPVR is doing the recording I have not found a setting for it to split into different folders. So I would have to go in and manually move them. I don't mind having to manually logging into Emby occasionally to set it right. It seems the type has inherit and TV but TV doesn't seem to set it correctly and therefore hides TVDB from the selection. Schedules Direct probably didn't have Season information and NextPVR named it like this; can Emby rename files if the identify button is used?

Here is the screenshot you asked for and btw Have a Good Christmas!!

We do not support renaming existing files. We support by date metadata lookups, but the date in the file name needs to match the air date in tvdb. Does it? I don't see episodes on tvdb with those dates so i am guessing that is the date recorded. So there is really no way for it to match metadata. what you need to do is rename those files using supported episode naming conventions. You can refer to those in our wiki:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming

Alternatively you can keep your existing file names but you will need to use the editor to specify season and episode numbers.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply; I understand renaming would be the correct thing to do and this is how my TV and Film libraries are setup. This is a folder of recordings and they could be movies or TV shows so I would like to find a way without manual intervention.

I noticed that this appeared on each item now so I was able to tell it which TVDB id it has.

However even though it updated with that information no metadata was downloaded etc. So does this mean even if Emby is told it is a TV show and told explicitly the ID number it won't update properly unless the file is named correctly?

Also the identify button is missing.

Thanks

For episodes we go by season and episode numbers, so those are the values you would need to manually correct.

Renaming the file is preferable because that makes it more permanent, but you can also just update the values in the metadata editor.
