CharleyVarrick 283 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I have a significant collection of music videos, some are concerts, others are actual videos clip slapped one after the other. I'd like to keep the complete video, but wish to extract from them one-song videoclips as well. When I google mp4 splitter, I'm getting some dubious offering. I'd prefer the program to be of the free, open source family. Could you share what you're using?
legallink 187 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Just so you are aware, a video splitter is something very different than what you are requesting. You are looking for video editing software, which can take many forms, and be limited to simply cutting/splicing video, and can be as elaborate as some professional tools. avidemux is probably a good place to start. 1
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 I'll be damned, I have been using Avidemux for a long while, but to convert formats (avi, mp4, mkv, ts), remove unwanted audio track. Thanks to you, I now realize I can also split, or edit my file with it. The name Avidemux is misleading, it supports all the formats I've ever thrown at it. Thanks again!
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 I also rediscovered another program I was using for other reasons, Handbrake does it quite well and QUICKLY too, providing the original file has proper chapters.
Marc_G 95 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 I used to use Avidemux a lot, but had a few issues with it a few years ago and switched over to the VideoPad software from NCH software. I paid the small fee for a full home use installation. That said, ffmpeg or MKVToolNix can split files based on time coordinates.
