Q: Emby through bluetooth headset while working out?

Hi folks,

I almost put this in the hardware section but really it's more than just a hardware question.

How can I listen to movies played by Emby via a bluetooth headset while i work out on a treadmill, while watching my movies on the big screen?

I've got a new Denon S720W AVR to unwrap on Christmas. It has bluetooth, but from reading the manual I see no bluetooth references other than for playing content from devices like phones... so using BT as an input, not as an output. OR, is using a BT speaker set so standard on these new AVRs that it doesn't even make the manuals?

Anyway, presuming that a direct AVR to BT headset connection isn't supported, how else would I accomplish this? What comes to mind is some device that would plug into the phono jack, and broadcast by BT. I have ancient Radio Shack wireless headphones that do this, but they are super staticy and drop out all the time. I want a better solution that lets me use good BT sport headphones. Haven't yet found a phono to BT adaptor box.

It also occurs to me that the computer I'll be using to play Emby content has BT, but I don't want to fuss with mousing around and switching audio output devices.

This can't be an unusual use case. What do people do for this kind of thing?

Thanks

Marc

Well, your ET setting is directly to AVR. So, if you leave your headset connected to the bluetooth on the Tronsmart, if you watch through the web app, you may be able to have the audio always go to the headset. You'll just have to remember that, if you're testing playback of something.

Thanks.

I spent some more good time googling, which I probably should have done before posting.

About a third of what I watch routinely is stuff I stream (via my TV) so if I used BT pairing to the Tronsmart, I would be in good shape for Emby content but not streaming. Sigh. So to get what I really want, I need a transmitter for the AVR output.

So, what I need is a Bluetooth transmitter, that plugs into the phono jack, and outputs the audio via Bluetooth.

Turns out there IS an easy answer, at least supposedly:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EHSX28M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not sure why my initial search didn't find this (and the host of similar products, some of which are common enough to be had locally at BestBuy).

This and the headset should arrive in a day or two and I'll test it out, with my current AVR and current HTPC setup. Haven't moved the Tronsmart down there because I'm waiting to unpack the AVR. :-) On Xmas.

I have a device very similar that I use when watching TV at night when my kids are here.  Works exactly for what you need.

Thanks! Hopefully it will work well with the sport ear buds I bought. I will known in a few days!

The TaoTronics unit arrived today, as did a nice set of Anker sport earbuds.  Once I figured out how to turn them on and pair them (most of the time involved was me rooting around for a pair of reading glasses to read tiny type and diagrams), they connected up just fine. I already had an adaptor to the phono jack of my current AVR. Sound came through loud and clear and perfectly adequate quality for this kind of activity. If I were an audio aficionado I might be less generous, but the reality is in the background there's the not-fully-cancelled treadmill so I can forgive imperfections. No significant lag observed with just the one device paired to the taotronics transmitter.

My only niggling criticism is that neither device came with an actual USB charger, through both came with short microUSB charging cables to plug into a computer or whatever.

I have a working solution. Hooray!
