ebr 16184 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 @@ebr, since the "magic button" seems to be working quite well for everyone, is there not a way to automate whatever the magic button is doing so there's no longer a requirement for user intervention? I'm guessing the automatic detection of troubled playback is the reason? We already do detect problems and fall back automatically. The issue is that some problems are not detectable by the software (like video just not showing up on the screen) so, instead of a blanket rule that tries to catch those situations and errs on the side of caution (causing potential transcoding when not needed) we now have the ability for you to tell the player to try a different method manually. 1
ebr 16184 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 So do other Android TV boxes (Shield, Nexus, Fire TV) not have the DTS issues that Mi Box has? Also is the Emby app for Fire TV the same as the Android TV app? The Mi's major downfall appears to be this DTS bug. Other than that it is a pretty nice box for $70 bucks. Of course, it also doesn't support the HD codecs but that only matters to a fairly small subset of situations. The Fire TV also cannot bitstream DTS or HD audio (it can bitstream DD). It can decode DTS in software though so items don't have to transcode for that reason. If you need full support of all the bells and whistles, the Shield is still the premiere option. Perhaps others will come along in the coming year. 1
