Roku - Movies - only list new content (or newer)

Hello,

I will try to keep this short.  My neighbor lost his wife and is alone.  I took over a Roku and set him up with my Emby.  All he cares about are movies, and he has asked and asked that I only show him the content that is newest.  He literally just want to see what movies were added in the last two weeks, something like that.

I know with the Emby app there is the latest content view which would work.  But on the Roku I don't see that.  So I was wondering, is there anything I could do server side maybe, that would only let his profile view content that is date added between Now and 14 days?  Something like that, it does not have to be exactly that.  Or a way to alter the way movies are shown to him by listing the newest first?

If the answer is obvious I apologize.  I don't use the Roku myself and I quickly searched the forum.  I have already made it so he only has access to movies (at his request) but just wondered if a way to meet his second request?

I thought maybe have him use the Emby app on Android phone.  That way he can see content in the view he wants, and he could start the movie on his Roku from his phone.  But I wanted to leave that option for last as he is not real technical so the more straight up the better.

Thanks all, and thank you to all who contribute to Emby.

In the current app there is a selector for Latest to be displayed in that row, no way to lock it to show only that.  There are no filters anywhere to limit displayed media by any amount of time (Only way to remove them from latest is add more media or mark them as watched/played to remove them from the list).  There is a new app in the works to be more like all the other apps but it is still in the development stages.

Example from Neon Blue Theme app look at the TV Shows Selector

Another thing you should do is edit the "Access" portion of his user so that only the movies library is visible.  This will take everything else away.

The new app may get you closer to what you want as it will show the latest 30 or so movies right on the home screen.

Or you could manually tag new content and set that user profile to filter out everything but those tags.  You'd then have to untag older stuff as they expire, but I think it'd work.

Hi all,

Thank you for the suggestions.  I did restrict his profile to movies only.  This filtering request was made after that.  I guess he is really only interested in new content :)  The manual approach would be a solution, but I prefer automation - I will keep that in mind though.  So that leaves the Latest menu item, which, when I set him up, I did not see.  I'll have to go back and learn about Neon Blue Theme app to see if it is what supplies the Latest.  That would work.  I think as long as he can see the latest he will be happy.  He would be happier, if that was all he saw, but I think this would be a satisfactory solution.

I will pursue that approach.  Thank you for calling it to my attention and thank you all for the quick responses.  You are the best.

Thanks,

tobias.

Press the * button when you are on the "movie library" screen. This will open the context menu for that screen (if that screen has one, some don't). On the movie library screen you can choose "sort by" and pick "date added". Next choose "sort order" and choose "descending". Now close the dialog. The screen will refresh and populate the items exactly as you chose. This is saved on a per-user basis to be remembered next time they visit that library. Once you set it this way once, each time after it will be presented as you left it. Even if you close the app, and come back to it fresh, it will remember your choices for each library.

The blue neon app allows more "sort by" choices and overall more functionality. If you do as @@ebr suggested and limit his access to just the movie library, and set the "sorby/sortorder" as suggested above. The movie library will always load the way you want. It will provide more than the last 14 days though. But since they are in reverse chronological order this should be perfect for you.

If you find an option you dont understand in the blue neon app, please let me know in the blue neon thread. Everything should be self explanatory for the most part (aside from some of the preferences). The most important part to remember, have fun. :)

EDIT:  @@tobias-tobin Please see this thead. I've added a latest button to the options row that will accomplish exactly what you want. It will show the last 100 items for each item type.

Thank you speechless.  Your suggestions and added feature are very helpful.  I have my neighbor setup and he is happy.  I am not sure how to make the 'best answer' to this question as more than one answer was helpful.  I don't want to disrespect anyone.  Sorry for the late response, I just got on here and saw it.

Thanks,

tobias.
