RanmaCanada 494 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 For some reason lately, whenever I use an external player with this version of emby, it always transcodes my source. If I use the non android tv app, and use an external player, everything direct plays perfectly fine. 2016-12-11 20:10:07.8342 Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectPlay limit 2016-12-11 20:10:07.8342 Info App: Profile: Android-External, Path: D:\downloads\alt.binaries.movies.x264\x265\Point Break (1991).mkv, isEligibleForDirectPlay: True, isEligibleForDirectStream: False2016-12-11 20:10:07.8583 Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectPlay limit2016-12-11 20:10:07.8583 Info App: Profile: Android-External, Path: D:\downloads\alt.binaries.movies.x264\x265\Point Break (1991).mkv, isEligibleForDirectPlay: True, isEligibleForDirectStream: False2016-12-11 20:10:07.8583 Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectPlay limit2016-12-11 20:10:07.8583 Info App: Profile: Android-External, Path: D:\downloads\alt.binaries.movies.x264\x265\Point Break (1991).mkv, isEligibleForDirectPlay: True, isEligibleForDirectStream: False Why is it this version of the app will not direct play the file, while if I use the other version of the app, everything plays perfectly fine. I am just curious. I have more than enough cpu power to spare, but it's frustrating when I go through all the work to compress these with massive quality, and instead it converts them to x264. The external player in question on this box is Vidon, which does support x265 on this box. An S905. I've noticed this on my home network while watching my rips of Torchwood earlier, and finally caught the log file for when it's doing this. server.zip
ebr 16169 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 What is "this version of Emby"? Based on the log snippet you posted, it looks like simply a bitrate restriction and not really associated with any version of the app though...
RanmaCanada 494 Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 EBR the version is the Android TV version 1.2.4g I believe. Is there any way to remove this bitrate limitation as the mobile app appears to have no such limitation whatsoever. There also should not be a bitrate limitation as I have everything set to max in the app. I find it odd because anytime I attempt to use the Android TV app for playing back x265 files, it transcodes them to x264. I've included the ffmpeg log as well. ffmpeg.zip
ebr 16169 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 The requested bitrate was about 5Mb/s. Don't know what "Max" is as far as the app settings go - there is no such value. What value, exactly, do you have it set to? Also, that cannot be the proper version number as it would be quite old.
Luke 42077 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Double check the in-app setting and make sure you've configured it the way you want it.
RanmaCanada 494 Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Will do and will get back to you.
RanmaCanada 494 Posted December 17, 2016 Author Posted December 17, 2016 Sorry for the delay. I was finally able to give you an update. The device was set to auto bitrate, so I changed the external player to a more up to date version of kodi, and it still was transcoding, so I then put the bitrate at 100mbs and now everything seems to be direct playing again.
