DLNA - Cant browse Artists or Album Artists

@bigeyez  MediaMonkey was just a baseline for me as I use that program for other reasons and it was easy for me to replicate the issue I was having in this particular case.   For me I never had any performance issues, it was just that the music tracks did not show up at all, they were blank.

Whatever Luke did in the 3.1.268-beta has fixed the issue for me and the problem has not returned.  BubbleUpnp was also just another test, my primary use for this is the Yamaha MusicCast system for playing music to my MusicCast devices around the house, soundbar, patio speakers etc.

I was referrign to your initial post in this topic.

 

Am I missing something with how devices should interact with Emby servers when DLNA is enabled?  Emby has scanned my music library fine, I have enabled DLNA but when I try to browse the music library from my new Sony TV or testing with "Media Monkey" from my PC I am unable to expand the Artists or Album Artist branch.  I can expand Albums fine.  Clicking on the Artists branch does show music in the right hand pane in MediaMonkey but on the TV it doesn't show any of this.

 

 

I felt like this is a similar issue I have here where most of the time Emby either times out when browsing especially Artists or does not list more than one page. In VLC I get no listing so I assumed that it was similar to yours.

Ahh yes, ok.  Sounds similar but with mine the response was always very quick but nothing ever showed up in Albums or Album Artists and since the fix I have not had any issues.  Sounds like you may need to submit some logs and get somebody who knows more about it than me to check it out?

Sorry to bump a very dated thread but it seemed relevant. Everything displays correctly in the emby app and can selected as expected. But if I (want to) use Yamaha MusicCast app to navigate and play music to my Yamaha DLNA receiver. When I try and navigate my Emby server within the MusicCast app, I can open the artist or album artist folder. I can see all the artists listed along with artist thumbnail. But they are all greyed out and cannot be selected. I can however select things in the Album folder as well as genre, folders, etc. 

Using this thread as a jumping off point, I opened up Media Monkey as that is how I organize my library. When I look at the Emby server under Devices&Services, I see that all the "artists" are tagged as Music Videos and Artist and Album Arist fields are empty. None of those fields can be edited as I believe this is directly tied to something in Emby and not something I have done myself in MM.

So back to Emby, does this issue have something to do with how artist metadata lookup in Emby using MusicBrainz, TheAudioDb.

Everything functions as normal on the web app (Windows 11/Chrome).

I can freely click through and drill down through all categories [suggestions | albums | artists | composers | genres | songs | folders]

OK. If you need immediate relief, I believe this is resolved on the 4.9 beta channel.

  I have been having a very similar issue for a while but finally decided to research it today (it used to work well about a year ago).  Using my Onkyo app browsing Emby Music library through DLNA, I can browse to Music, then Album Artists which displays the list of artists but then I cannot browse further down in an Artist to see the albums.  I have the same behaviour with BubbleUPNP and it returns an error of "No playable items found" when you click on an Artist in the Album Artists category.  I can browse down to Music\Albums and play any songs without issue.  Erverything works well in the emby wep app.

  I am running Version 4.8.11.0.  Attached is the verbose serverlog showing the tests.

  Should I try the beta channel 4.9?

Thanks @Luke.  Do you happen to know when 4.9 stable version will be out?  If we are still weeks/months away I will go the beta channel route, if the stable release is scheduled soon I might just wait.
