neckster 0 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 So I'm a transplant from Plex and I got pretty good with it. Moved to Emby and I will never got back. But one thing is kicking my @!@!. How do I add a Genre Is there an automatic way to then add movies to that new Genre Specifically Christmas movies. My wife claims she just clicked on Christmas movie Genre on Plex and bam there they are. So I'm trying to duplicate it via Emby. I have tried adding them via Metadata Manger and going to Movies....adding it under Genres. But they disappear. At a loss. If it's just a matter of me reading some Wiki point me at it. PLEASE.
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 29, 2016 Solution Posted November 29, 2016 What do you mean it disappears? What server version and browser are you using? Open Metadata Manager select Movies select a movie navigate to Genre Add Genre, Enter Genre name, click ok Click Save at bottom Perform library scan for New Genre to be recognize And got this from those steps 1
neckster 0 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 And I'm a dumb user. I do most of my admin work via Teamviewer and apparently there is some lag because I wasn't truly saving the new genre. This time I waited a bit and noticed the confirmation of the save in the lower left corner. Not sure that's a good place for it. Seems to be working now. But won't complete until it scans my 2800 movie library. I know I have a problem. Thanks for the quick help.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Just a starter collection. Little more than that on my small server.
neckster 0 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 Nice. Ok next question. Can you call my wife and tell her that? Right now I'm doing 9TB and need to upgrade to something bigger. It's attached to a Proliant rack server I had laying around.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I took the mother board from my Proliant and put in a Norco RPC4224. 1
Luke 42078 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 By the way, if you meant to say that saving the genre was held up by the library scan, I believe that should be resolved for the next release of Emby Server. Thanks.
neckster 0 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 It's actually not related. Or at least in this case not. I was leaving the page(I blame Teamviewer) before I received the confirmation in the lower left corner of the successful change. My last question is actually because I'm dreading the process of adding the new Genre "Christmas" to each one of the Christmas movies I have. Before I start that process is there an automated way?
neckster 0 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 Also as a FYI I'm a beta user. I like to lead a complicated life.
denz 501 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) I think there isn't you have to go in every movie and add Christmas genre. Edited December 1, 2016 by denz
Sammy 790 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 That is correct. It'd be nice if that were already in the metadata and Emby took advantage of it.
Luke 42078 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 That is correct. It'd be nice if that were already in the metadata and Emby took advantage of it. Well if it is already in the metadata, then Emby will take advantage of it.
Sammy 790 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Right. But I don't see a "Christmas" Genre.. correct me if I'm wrong.
Luke 42078 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I also don't see an Elephant genre but I can still add that to a movie if I wish.
Sammy 790 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 So, the genres in Emby are generated from the metadata without intervention from the user but if the genre doesn't exist we need to add it to the metadata? You'd think that would be a popular enough genre tag that the metadata providers would include it but I guess they don't. I'm going to go through my library and fix this in the server dashboard..
Sammy 790 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I added the genre "Christmas" to a couple of movies and scanned my library but the genre didn't come up in the library. "Holiday" exists but not all the "Christmas" movies are there either. If I'm going to add tags I might as well use what is already being used so I'll use "Holiday". Even our metadata is politically correct!
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 More toward the rules that apply at the provider sites. They have cleaned up and don't even offer Holiday or Christmas as a choice on TMDB. So if you have media already with holiday it could be extremely old metadata or came from another provider. I added the genre "Christmas" to a couple of movies and scanned my library but the genre didn't come up in the library. Does the genre still appear in the metadata? Do you by chance use the Genre cleaner?
Latchmor 584 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I added the genre "Christmas" to a couple of movies and scanned my library but the genre didn't come up in the library. "Holiday" exists but not all the "Christmas" movies are there either. If I'm going to add tags I might as well use what is already being used so I'll use "Holiday". Even our metadata is politically correct! That's strange, I just did the same and my Christmas genre appeared. Same as Happy in post 2.
Sammy 790 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Hitting save sorta helps. I didn't scroll down far enough and assumed hitting "OK" after adding the genre was enough but nope.. Gotta save it! My bad. 2
denz 501 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I tried adding Christmas genre to few movies and as soon as I done library scan Christmas genre appears so it is working.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 99% of the time "Save" is the issue since you see that okay acknowledgement you think it is added, but nothing is actually written until you hit "Save". It is a little bit of a design issue in the Metadata Manager since you have to scroll to the Top or Bottom to hit Save. @@Luke could there be a floating "Save" button in Metadata Manager like you have in pop-up Edit info?
Sammy 790 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 How about when you hit "OK" it saves it too?
