With the recently announced update to the Xbox 1 S supporting trueHD and DTS MA will the Emby Theater app be updated to support streaming these codecs (mainly interested for ATMOS and DTS-X support)?

I was reading on the Kodi forums that Microsoft only allows bitstreaming in its own apps, and not 3rd party apps.

This means that Emby will not be able to stream Atmos or DTS:X.

If you think this idea stinks, then please petition MS to open bitstreaming to 3rd party apps.

Hi, thanks for those links !

Hey Luke, is this what is holding back Atmos / TrueHD from being supported on the Xbox One X or S?

Yes, unfortunately.

Which is why I encourage all Emby fans to follow the links and vote for Microsoft to allow audio bitstreaming for 3rd party apps.

They're licensing the codecs. I can only guess that it would cost them more to expose them to all apps. But for a $400-500 machine you'd think they could fit it in there.

Or even give us consumers the ability to license it ourselves per device if we wanted to.

In fact, they play the licence for every Xbox on which the owner has downloaded the blu-ray application. I can't imagine many people not doing that, so the licence is not an issue.

Right but these companies that license their codecs want to get everything they can. It is very possible their contracts dictate the apps that are allowed to use it.
