CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I just noticed my split video files are not working as expected. When part1 ends, part2 doesn't follow automatically. The way 99%* of my split video are setup is like this: (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part1.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part2.mp4 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie%20naming On github, I see they put dash in front of part1 (-part1) but don't mention/specify it per say. In the 3 years+ I was using Kodi (before Emby), it always worked as expected for me without dashes. http://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/Movies Do I need to find/rename all my splits or is there a setting for Emby to accept them as they are? *The remaining 1% are mixed type, eg: part1 is .mp4 while part2 is video_ts Those have always been problematic, but for now I'd like to concentrate on the 99% EDIT: on Emby web, part2 does not start after part1 is done On the other hand, Kodi does handle part2 correctly, albeit with one small glitch, the movie title I see next to the Now Playing details on part1 is replaced by "stream" once part2 starts The other issue is the running time that's reported in both Emby and Kodi, as far as I can tell, it only shows the part1 running time Edited November 18, 2016 by jlr19
ebr 16187 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 The dashes are necessary I believe. Not having this makes it too easy for a false positive result. If you are going to rename them, I would just merge them instead.
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I just renamed about 12 in a specific library, from (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part1.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part2.mp4 to (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)-Part1.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)-Part2.mp4 It made no difference; Emby finishes to play -part1 and just stops Kodi starts -part2 automatically once -part1 is done (just like it did without dashes), and with the same minor glitch as without dash (see OP) Both Emby and Kody report wrong runtime (-part1 only); I am assuming Kodi reports what Emby tells it to report Merging over 500 split video is not a viable option, it should just work Edited November 18, 2016 by jlr19
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I noticed something else, nfo seems to consider only part1 (with or without dash), eg: (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part1.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part1.nfo (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)Part2.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)-Part1.mp4 (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)-Part1.nfo (Drive letter):\Movies\Broken Trail (2006)\Broken Trail (2006)-Part2.mp4 is this behavior expected? In any case it would explain why emby and kodi report the runtime of part1 only EDIT: Another odd behavior, once -part1 reaches the end, the movies status becomes Watched (checkmarked), as opposed to In progress (resume from xx:xx) Edited November 18, 2016 by jlr19
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Do you see additional parts listed on the detail screen in the emby web interface? If so then you are naming them correctly, it's just that our support for playing them is still in primitive stages.

Detail screen shows this "additional part" on bottom left, so you're saying it shouldn't? Merging 1 or 2 split video is one thing, my guess is I have between 300-400... And in this case Broken Trail (2006), its meant as a 2 part, as there's beginning and end credits to both part 1 and 2 Edited November 18, 2016 by jlr19
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 No I'm saying what you're doing is fine x we just have not fully fleshed out the playback experience of split files to be what you would expect. 1
Luke 42083 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 That's one reason why joining is good and practical advice.

Happy2Play 9783 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Personally I would make a series not a movie, since it is a mini-series. http://thetvdb.com/?tab=seasonall&id=81129&lid=7 1
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 Agreed, it would make sense for that one, plus no need to merge. Then again, do mini-series (as in 2 parts only) really fit well along actual, multi-episodes multi seasons tv series, not sure... Ballpark figure is of my 300-400 split videos, I may have only 20-ish that fit this mini-serie mold.
