Master of Tragedy 0 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I'm currently thinking about switching from Plex Pass to Emby Premiere as it seems to work even with some of the problem files that didn't work on Plex. For now I've installed the Standard version x64 on my QNAP TS-253-Pro and it seems to work fine with most files. I'm not quite sure which version would be the best for me NAS performancewise. Standard, qffmpeg oder Mediastreaming? I can't find any guidelines to select the best versions so maybe someone here can answer this? Also, can I just reinstall for example the Mediastreaming version of Emby over the Standard version and preserve my configuration?
Luke 42077 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Hi, welcome ! I think with qffmpeg and MediaStreaming your mileage will vary. I would suggest trying both to be honest. I believe that yes you can install one or the other but you may want to raise a question in this QNAP thread here: https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=320&t=109476 My suggestion would be to just try both briefly for testing purposes before settling on the one you prefer. Let us know how it goes !
Master of Tragedy 0 Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Ok. you're right I could just install it over the standard installation. But not very successful though. The MediaStreaming version just does nothing different and is still using the enclosed ffmpeg. Maybe it's because the settings from the standard version were active already? And I can't install the qffmpeg-Version as I can't install the needed qffmpeg package. It just installs forever and never returns. I will see if I can get help with that in the qnap forum. Thanks.
Master of Tragedy 0 Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Ok, the QFFMPEG-Version works pretty fast now. Even with some problematic files transcoding works a lot faster than before. I just had to use the x86 3.1.3 QFFMPEG-Package and not the x86_64 one.
Master of Tragedy 0 Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Seems I won't switch from Plex for now. There are just too many issues to deal with. Sometimes movies need very long to start (2-3 minutes). Most of the times videos stop 2-3 minutes before the end which is extremely annoying as it still is marked as watched and you have to find the position yourself again where it stopped. The subtitle problem I reported in another thread is also very annoying. On the iPad subtitles are most of the time not shown at all although selected. In the web browser subtitles are way off when the video was stopped and resumed. Live tv with DVBLink Plugin works sometimes and sometimes not. SAT>IP is not implemented yet, just discovered (and can't be deleted after discovery btw). Sometimes when accessing the main emby page it shows the load indicator for ages and I need to refresh the browser myself. I like Emby but I think it still needs more time before it can be used without issues. For now I just want a simple and stable way to enjoy my movies and don't want to deal with too many issues that prevent me to do that. Also the NAS installation (especially QNAP) is too much trial and error without a real step by step guide or instructions on how to achieve the best results with which settings.
Luke 42077 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 There is a subtitle fix being applied for the next release. By trial and error, do you mean in terms of choosing between the two qnap packages or the actual package installation?
Master of Tragedy 0 Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Yes, there are 3 possibilities for QNAP and also the QFFMPEG one divides into other possibilities with different versions of QFFMPEG without explanations why a specific version should be used and what is the difference. Also it's not clear which settings should be used for each version as they all need different settings. So unless you're a transcoding expert who exactly knows how things work and how they can be influenced it's quite a task to find out how to set it up correctly.
