iOS app support SSL connection?

I tried to get my iPhone to connect to my server through cellular service via SSL with no avail.  I dropped back to unsecured and it now works fine.  am I missing something or does the iOS app just not work on a secured connection?

Are you using a self signed certificate, if so it won't work; unless you sign your certificate with a self signed root authority certificate and import it as an organisational certificate in iOS.

I use  a "let's encrypt" certificate instead of a self-signed one. It works with safari and app.
