robertn78 0 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hello, What codecs do not have to transcode? Thank you
Luke 42077 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 it really depends on what app you're using. but in general, mp4, baseline profile, with aac or mp3 audio.
robertn78 0 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 So it is Client system dependent and not a set but Media Browser. I am using Win 7 and Android.
Redshirt 1487 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Each of the mobile OS's has different video format requirements. It all comes down to what media codecs each OS developer is willing to license. Luke stated the best formats for the Android os, but your video bitrate in the settings is still going to play an issue. If your cellular or wifi bitrate is lower than the bitrate of the movie, then it's going to transcode even if it's compatible media formats. If the bitrate is set higher than your connection can sustain then it's going to stutter and constantly buffer.
gcw07 347 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Ok, so what is Stream Copy? It is still transcoding, but if the format of the video is a match, we don't have to transcode it. So say the content of the movie video is h264 with a bitrate under the match for streaming. It would then just copy the video portion of the file to the transcoder. The audio portion (say it was DTS and your on a 2 channel output) would then transcode. So it would stream copy the video, and transcode the audio. It basically is a lot faster then transcoding an entire file instead especially if it is the video that your stream copying. 1
