Playback, but no sound

Recommended Posts

Latest Beta client on Nvidia Shield, connect to Surround Sound Receive via HDMI

Client 1.2.66g

Server:  3.1.191

Tried playing back a movie, and the movie plays back fine, but the audio does not come through for some reason.  In other instances I have had to stop playback.  Play the movie back elsewhere to get a new resume point.  Then go back to the shield and play it, and it will work.  It's almost as if for some reason the sound for the first remux isn't correct.  While this movie is avi, this has happened with series as well that are mkv.

It is passing the audio straight through.  Sounds more like some sort of breakdown in the hdmi/audio chain.

Sure, I went that route too.  Except that I get full audio through everything else.  And when I reboot the Shield, and re-open Emby, it still persists.

Rebooting Shield doesn't fix it.

Turning TV on off doesn't fix it.

Turning AVR on off doesn't fix it.

What does fix it, is playing the show back on my phone, getting a new resume point.  And then it magically works.

And this only started happening with the last 4 or 5 beta's.  Before that this was never an issue.

I have had instances where, if I rewind a bit and then play, I get no audio.

If I rewind again it usually comes back.

Stopping/starting also fixes it most times.

Always assumed it was just one of those things, so never reported it.

This is all Direct/V playback.

I would give it a try without Quick Sync in case that might be related.

Yeah, it has happened in those instances, although I rarely do that.   Maybe it's time to see if MXPlayer works yet with TrueHD out on the shield.

So it works when you don't start from the beginning?

Um... would that really cause an issue here?  It's only remuxing the sound, and the sound works on other occasions.  This is a random event that just happens sometimes.  Never had an issue with it before....

You're probably right but right now we're just looking for information that might help.

Since he is transcoding his issue would be happening in the internal player.

The fact that starting from a different point works is very strange.  I would be sure and try what Luke suggested and turn off QS.
