JERRY1 17 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hello, i have the roku3, mb on htpc.my question is will there be issues if i download the mb server for roku3 on the same htpc
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 You can run the server on the same machine as a client. You need the server in order to stream media to your Roku.
JERRY1 17 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 So you're saying delete media browser classic, and run the server as both on the same pc ?
Solution Luke 42077 Posted January 19, 2014 Solution Posted January 19, 2014 no they're two separate apps. you still need to have media browser classic if you intend to use that. 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 To use Roku though all you need is the following: 1. MB server running on your htpc, or other computer 2. MB Roku app downloaded from Roku store, and 3. your Roku 3 of course. You do not need MB classic if all you want is to use Roku. However, MB classic can run on the same machine as the server and is a totally different client/way of streaming to your tv than Roku
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 So you're saying delete media browser classic, and run the server as both on the same pc ? No. You would run the Server and MediaBrowser Classic on the same machine. The server would be able to stream to your Roku at the same time.
JERRY1 17 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Thanks for all the help guys, i'll be using both i use the classic in my room, will stream to other room with roku
Nick's MCE 59 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Hi all I have just got my Roku3 and as usual am slightly confused about a couple of things. Just want be headed in the right direction before set-up. I am outside the US so I have already subscribed to a DNS Server and installed this on my network. My first question is this. Where do I connect the Roku (obviously I connect the LAN to my Network), but do I need to connect the HDMI or is it all streaming through the Network. Am I viewing through my HTPC or I am I connecting the HDMI to a separate input on my amp and Roku is finding MB server to stream media through the Network. Thanks in advance and apologies for my ignorance.
CBers 7450 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Plug HDMI from Roku into TV. In essence, iit's another HTPC. You'll then need to install MB3 channel and connect it to your server.
Nick's MCE 59 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Thanks So as I see it my HTPC runs on HDMI 1 and Roku will run on HDMI 2, two completely separate streaming devices. I then download the MB3 Channel which links my media with Roku., this all happens through my Network. I was actually hoping that Roku became a channel on MB Classic so all my media including internet was streaming through MB. If I was only using the Roku for Internet TV then I don't need the MB3 Channel. Thanks again
CBers 7450 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 The Roku is a client in the same way as MBC is, just an alternative. MBC will play files directly, whereas the Roku will mostly play transcoded files, unless you have MP4 or MKV video. You need to check the specs of the Roku for full details.
