audio getting out of sync

When I fast forward a recording on the Shield TV, the audio sometimes gets out of sync.  If I stop the recording and resume, it is still out of sync.  The only way to get it back in sync is to start from the beginning of the recording or to rewind at least one time.  I am recording in MP4 format and keeping the original audio stream (5.1 DD in this case).

Have you tried just skipping back once to see if the audio re-syncs properly?

You are right.  That does work, but I would think that you would not want it to get out of sync in the first place having to rely on a work-around that I only found by trial and error.  Until I found that skipping back one time could reset it, I was annoyed that I could not get it back in sync without starting over and then fast-forwarding to where I was previously, hoping it would not get out of sync again in the process.

I agree but we are dealing with external code here so, in that case, a workaround is the best we can do right now :).

I have a follow-up question on this.  All of my mkv or mp4 files with DTS or DD (AC3) (including Emby recordings from live TV) used to play via the internal player.  At this point, all of those files are being played with VLC (Direct/V) on my Shield TV.  Live TV is still being played by the internal player (Direct/I).  Other than the audio sync issue when fast-forwarding, I have not noticed any issue so far, but I was wondering why this changed?

If you have the option to bitstream DTS then those will play through the internal player because VLC cannot do that.  The only other thing I can think of would be ref frames as we relaxed some restrictions there for VLC.  Specifically, if those items only have 1 ref frame, then they may have gone to the internal player before where now they would go to VLC.

I do have bitstream DTS enabled.  This only changed recently.  All of these files used to play Direct/I which is why I asked.  I actually prefer the internal player unless VLC has gotten a lot better.
