Problems with Two HDHR Extends Connected To Emby Server

I have been running a single HD Home Run Extend connected to our Emby Server for about 9 months, which has been working pretty well. This allowed us to watch one LIve TV Channel while recording a second TV channel.

I recently added a second HD Home Run Extend to the above to allow us to watch two Live TV shows, while Emby was recording two TV Channels.

I keep up with the software revisions and updates and are running current Emby software (3.0.7300.0).

The following are the problems that I am experiencing while using two Roku 3600 sticks to access Emby Server and since I added the second HDHR Extend.

First of all, some of the time when you change Live TV channels from one channel to a different channel, you cannot get Emby Server to connect to the new channel.

In the "official" Roku app, it will try to connect, then "kick you out" and you have to start all over again.

Using Blue Neon, it will try to connect to the new channel and then you get the "error message" on the screen, just like you do if all of your tuners are unavailable.

If you keep trying multiple times, some of the time you can get ultimately get connected.

If you get tired of trying to getting one of the two Emby apps to connect to a different Live TV channel in the Server, you can always get it to connect immediately to a program that you have recorded.

If we look at the Emby Dashboard, Live TV, Tuner Devices, when the problem above is occurring - we see that we have one (or more) HDHR tuners available - but forever what reason, it will not

connect using one of the available tuners.

Secondly, while watching a live TV channel..... sometimes near at the end of the program, the Emby Server will disconnect.

It acts like the Server software disconnects you from the LIve TV stream in order to record a show that was programmed in the schedule for the next time period.  This occurs even though HDHR Tuners are available shown to be available on the Tuner Devices screen in the Emby Server.

Thirdly, it may be that I have something incorrect in my Emby setup with the two HDHR tuners.

I need to play with it some more, but it appears that even though we have 4 tuners active, we can't get all four tuners either playing Live TV and/or recording something at the same time.  It kinda acts that it is giving preference to the first HDHR tuner and treats the second HDHR Tuner like a stepchild that is trying to disown.

Any help for us?

Hi, what is your HDHR firmware versions for each device?

Posted

Both HD HomeRun Extends are running FIrmware Version 20160719atest1

Luke, after I posted my reply to your question, I was reading the earlier post on the forum and saw that there was a later version of Firmware for the HD HomeRuns.

I downloaded and installed it.

0160928beta1/beta2

I will try it and see if it make any difference to what I have been seeing and wrote about in my original post to the forum.

OK Luke.  Next bit of information......

After updating the firmware on the two HDHR tuners to the latest and greatest - the above problems still exist.

We were watching a Live TV show through one of the Roku sticks a few minutes ago and like before, at the bottom of the hour, it kicked us off.,  Tried multiple times to get back on, with both the Blue Neon and official versions and it would not let me back on.

I looked at the Tuner Device page and saw that all four HDHR tuners showed that they were busy watching something.

I then looked at the Guide page and saw that there was three different channels that we had previously saved to record during that time period.  I assume that we were recording those channels.  I did not see a fourth channel that was supposed to be recorded during that time period.,

Next, I went into the Guide and told Emby to delete one of the three programs that it was recording.  Evidently it quit recording from one of the tuners, because the screen showed only three tuners were "watching".

I tried once again to get the Roku to connect back to the Live TV channel we were viewing.  It still would not connect!

I finally rebooted the Emby Server to "clear the air" and tried to reconnect to the Live TV channel.  It now connects and we are current watching the Live TV channel.

Looking at the Tuner Device page, we now have only one tuner "Watching".  The other three tuners are "Available".

So it appears that the problems that I described earlier are still there.

I assume that Emby gives priority to someone watching "Live TV" channels over trying to record anything, but I may be wrong.

By the way, may I suggest that if possible, on the Tuner Device page, it would be helpful to have what channel that each tuner is "Watching", when it is "busy".  That would help us some to determine what each tuner is actually doing.

Luke, I am not sure this is what you want, but here is the log from the time that the problem occurred

Hopefully, the log that I posted will show when we were watching Live TV at 7:30 PM.  At that time, it kicked us off Live TV when it started recording a program that was scheduled to be recorded on another channel.

Luke, do you need anything from us to help resolve the two problems.

We finally had to take out all scheduled recordings to keep from being kicked off of Live TV while recordings start.

The second problem is also still present, in that will not let us connect to an available tuner for Live TV (out of the 4 available tuners), even though one or more are available when a program is being recorded.

The next release will have some major changes so I would just re-evaluate then. Thanks.
