ThermoDust 12 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 where do i get the ssl certificate from ? I personally went with https://www.ssls.com/ssl-certificates/comodo-positivessl - Due to cost per year and ease of purchase. why do i need it ? You don't and you do. SSL is just a wrapper around the stream going from your server to your device. It is good because it prevents(to a certain extent) anyone from seeing what is being transmitted, all they can see is traffic but not what kind. I find it to be piece of mind. I like the idea of my ISP and anyone else not knowing what goes through my network. Do i only install on the server or do it need to be installed on all devices that connects to the server too ? Only on the server
KRONZO 20 Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Thank you for the answer. it clarifies it a bit, but if i set up a vpn for my network would that not achieve the same thing ?
ThermoDust 12 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 For the most part yes, the VPN will do it. VPN will enclose the connection from your computer/network to their exit node. From there the traffic is unencrypted whereas a SSL will be end to end.
