RottingMeat 2 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I have lots of computers in my apartment and am looking to spread the load. Right now I have MBC/MBT on a computer connected to my receiver and TV and it's running MBS as well. I want to move server to a VM I have running so that it can access a more powerful processor and handle multiple streams without overloading the main HTPC. My wife does not like it when her movie or show stutters because I have two other streams going on. My questions are: 1. Can I install MBS on another computer and copy data over? 2. If I can, how? As usual, any help or guidance is appreciated.
Logos302 86 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 you don't really need to. you could just use the trakit plugin to save your watch status from one server to the next. But I believe you can just install the product to get all prereq's install and then just copy the whole directory from the older server. You might want to clear the cache directory first so you're not copying this as well.
ebr 16183 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 It is probably easier to just re-install everything. You could end up chasing your tail due to copying references that aren't valid on the new machine.
RottingMeat 2 Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 All very good ideas. I guess I could just run them side by side and copy/paste my settings from one to the other. My biggest concern is when the second computer is running the server, will an end user be prompted to connect to a different one if it's already connected?
Starlionblue 82 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Rather interested in this issue since I'll be migrating to a new machine in the next few weeks. Media, metadata and such is not a problem, especially since it is all on a NAS. I would need to migrate the users though. Any tips? you don't really need to. you could just use the trakit plugin to save your watch status from one server to the next. ebr 16183 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 As long as all machine references will be exactly the same, you can just backup and restore the MediaBrowser-Server directory. 1

All the media will be in the same place. Will there be any issues with the user account running MBS being different?
ebr 16183 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Not as long as permissions are setup properly and everything the account references is still referenced with the exact same name/drive path/unc path. 1
