It really is more about the codecs in the container since the server will remux to fit the device/apps needs.  I believe mp4 is the most universal though.

There is no one answer as it depends on your playback device.  There is one most generic option that's most likely to play on everything though:  MP4 container, h264 video, 2-channel AAC sound.  Almost anything that can run Emby can run almost anything that meets those criteria without transcoding.

Of course that assumes transcoding is bad, which I'd disagree with.  I personally use MKV and MP4, depending on sound formats, with high bit rate h264 and both the original audio streams from the source disc and an AAC copy with the same number of channels as the source material at the highest bitrate allowed in Handbrake.

Do you have a copy of the config to do this or commands?  Never tried handbreak but I want to organize my library in a singular format and perhaps post-process new additions to the settings you described in the second paragraph.

Handbrake will transcode your video. You can set it to be minimal but some transcoding will happen. If your files are already h264 or h265, I'd suggest just remuxing them. It's much quicker and easier to do.

Nope, I stopped using handbrake to shrink my files and just bought a TON of storage instead.  That said, start with the High Profile preset and modify from there.  It should be pretty close to what you need.

Okay, thank you.  Work has been crazy busy so I have not had a chance to look at it or download it yet, I assumed it was a command line based tool which is why I asked.  Ty very much for the info!
